Prior to my recent asthma deterioration my GP prescribed Naproxen for my migraines. I explained that I’ve never had any problems with Ibuprofen so I was happy with that. Now after this recent nasty flare I am reluctant to take it as I don’t know if it will trigger an attack. For those of you out there who have migraines, is there an alternative pain killer that I can talk through with my GP?

Normally if you’ve taken NSAID painkillers before without any problems you shouldn’t have any issues with them.
But I can’t have them and so I normally end up being prescribed codeine based painkillers to take alongside paracetamol if needed. I get occasional migraines and they still tend to help them.
If migraines are a regular problem for you though or you find the painkillers you have aren’t helping there are specific tablets for migraines that can be prescribed - so might be worth going back to your GP and asking about trying those.
Thanks JS706. Sadly, I have a severe allergy to codeine so that’s off the table. I can get by with paracetamol if am I in a dark room, lying down with my head still but that’s not always possible. It’s such a nightmare!
Ugh that’s annoying! I think the migraine tablets are called triptans (I’ve not had them but my friend is prescribed them for when she feels one starting)
Yes, I’ve heard of those. I’ll have a chat with GP about my concerns and see what the outcome is. I don’t get migraines very often but when they do hit they last for a few days and make my life pretty miserable. Thanks
I was going to say I use migraleve sometimes especially if feel nausea with it, but it contains codeine!
My migraine can be caused by too much dark chocolate, red wine (which I don't drink now), or citrus fruit such as oranges. The other things which can sometimes trigger it are newspaper print or strong perfumes. But as always sometimes I've no idea. of the cause. I hope your doctor can suggest something as I am sure there are alternatives. You could speak to the pharmicist to see if they can help.
My trigger is either too much sleep, low blood sugar levels and stress. Sometimes they just happen without any identifiable causes.

I actually use CoCodamol. It's the only tablet I can take that actually works, and doesn't affect my asthma. I also have Long QT Syndrome (irregular heartbeat), so I have to be careful what I take. Hope you manage to take a suitable, safe pain killer! 🙂
I take Zolmitriptan to clear the migraine and paracetamol for the pain.
Hiya, I used to suffer badly from migranes so the doctor put me on Propanolol 1 tablet twice a day and I very very rarely get a migrane or any other sore heads. It is actually a beta blocker but strangely enough I do not have high blood pressure.
Hopeyou find something that works - migranes are the pits!
