Intrinsic asthma and non allergic rhinistis.

I have horrible rhinistis to the point I'm mouth breathing most of the time and I've been prescribed avamys which didn't work and now dymista which makes me feel ill and unblocks my nose very little, my asthma feels worse with this, I take symbicort twice a day. yet peak flow is always 550, does anyone else here have intrinsic asthma with bad rhinitis and find both hard to control?

I have rhinitis and asthma. Using nose sprays over the years has lead to nose bleeds when I use them now so I am not on any at the moment. I am a definite mouth breather. I guess I am used to it now. I found the biggest help is a sinus rinse like a sinugator.

NeilMed Sinugator Cordless Pulsating Nasal Wash with 30 Premixed Packets amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CQ7IBFG/...

I used to have a runny nose all the time. Now it's not as bad. It doesn't stop the problem entirely but it has helped. Good luck.

Thank you. All the ones I've tried seem to dry my nose out and make me nauseated, I have a nasal wash here so I'll try using it more. Is your asthma well controlled?

No, I've just been in hospital again. At least I am not so stuffy all the time.

I'm sorry to hear that, hope you're back home soon.

I was in for a week. I just got home on Monday. I'm still a bit breathless, but I am a lot better than I was. x

My son had severe rhinitis and brittle asthma. ENT consultant put him on a course of nasal steroids, antihistamines, and after the steroids Avamys. Also Neilmed sinus rinse every day. Really helped.

Good luck and I hope things improve for you.

My husband uses the nasal rinse every day and swears by it - even though he doesn’t have rhinitis!

I have asthma and Bronchiectasis and was also diagnosed with chronic sinusitis (through CT scan) which caused constantly runny nose and “backdrop” down the throat. The backdrop caused lots of coughing and irritated throat feeling.

In March this year I had FESS surgery to open up the flow from my sinuses and that has completely solved my problem with the tunny nose and the “backdrop”!

Sinuses are now clear and I haven’t had any chest infections etc since the surgery either.

Would agree that saline nose rinses are very helpfully and helps both with clearing your nose and jeepirit “moist” and mire comfortable.

Thank you for the reply, I'm using a nasal wash today to see how it goes, came off the dymista all day yesterday and nose wasn't as blocked and phoned doctor about my symbicort medication as I've been on it a month and it just makes me feel really ill and breathless. I have appointments with asthma nurse and doc next week so hopefully I can get this sorted.
