Shannon, don’t be scared. It’s a great thing that your practitioner thinks that you’re well enough for stop your preventer. Just think, if you feel unwell and experience symptoms, you can your Salbutamol as your reliever and you could also go back to the GP.

If it helps, last year (during a flare) I had to stop my preventer for a week and I was fine. I felt unwell because I was mid-flare but here I am to tell the tale.

Two weeks isn’t a very long time but if in doubt, call your GP :)

To put a positive spin on this, after the 2 week break, if you experience no symptoms, that helps validate that it’s not asthma causing you to feel unwell and it further validated that it’s your health anxiety.

Be strong. You’ve got this!

A lot of people who say they “grew out of” childhood asthma probably never had it in the first place.

There was a period of time when people our age (I’m 24) were younger when any child with a bit of a wheeze with a virus was given an inhaler and told it was probably asthma. Whereas now it’s known that just because a child gets a bit wheezy when they have a virus doesn’t mean they have asthma.

That’s a very valid point. I didn’t really realise this until I read it in here and then did some further reading myself

But don’t let that worry you right now. In 2 weeks time, you’ll be even closer to finding out exactly what is going on which really is a positive in itself.

Break it all down into little steps and you’ll feel a lot more in control of your journey. With finding a diagnosis to any condition, the journey is often very bumpy and long winded.

If you are choosing to ignore many people saying the same thing every single you write the same thing, then no-one can help you.

You shouldn’t be worrying yourself about symptoms that you don’t yet have.

What if it’s not asthma? Then you’ve wasted a lot of time and energy over something you don’t have.

What if it is asthma? Then you and your doctor will discuss treatment and what’s available.

Perhaps "outgrowing" asthma is the wrong term. My son definitely had asthmatic symptoms as a child, but these got better and he only uses Ventolin occasionally (which is why I agree with MrsCMK that you should keep some salbuterol available, just in case). There is no reason at all why your immune system cannot alter over the years, and auto-immune responses like hayfever are known sometimes to improve with age. But you should be aware that you might get a slight temporary increase in symptoms when you stop the brown inhaler - try not to worry unduly about that as it's very common and you don't want to get too anxious as that can alter your immune response, which is the very thing which may be causing your asthma symptoms.

Hope it works out for you.

A lot of the time with medical diagnoses, people don’t get answers right away. Many asthmatics are unwell for years before getting diagnosed- if you do get a late diagnosis, you can’t blame yourself for that.

It’s out of your control right now, so take control of the variables that are within your reach:

Salbutamol- this will help you if you experience any of your usual symptoms

Your GP- in the 2 weeks that you’re off your preventer (the brown), if you find that you suddenly become particularly unwell, then book yourself a same-day appointment

You’re going around and around in circles. I’m not sure what else you’d like anyone in here to say?

It’s a positive step to come off your brown preventer. If you feel symptomatic in the next two weeks then go back to gp sooner.

I get the frustration when you feel something isn’t quite right. But give yourself a break From dr google/ health unlocked and try not to look at anything asthma related on the internet- if anything just to give you a break. I often do and it helps! Having any medical conditions whether that’s asthma or anxiety or both or can take it’s toll and take over.

Do you talk to anyone about your concerns and health worries other than on here? Sometimes it helps to add a 3 dimensional perspective- as speaking to someone you know would know you better than we do. I did when I was going through some frustrations related to my asthma and it helped give me perspective.

No you have not out grown it - you never had asthma in the first place .

Try making a life for yourself outside of your self obsession .

I'd be pretty pleased. Take this a step forward and not a negative. Keep your blue one with all the time and you have your GP back up. You've had so much advice from so many people already, I can't add to it

thankyou so much everyone i haven’t always been on the brown but as you no these past 4 month’s ive been so so worried 😔 xxxx

Ask your doctor straight out if you do or don’t have asthma and then get your health anxiety sorted.
