Just started Uniphyllin

Hi, I've just started taking Uniphyllin 200 twice a day. I know its early days but I was wide awake last night, assume this was because if the uniphyllin, and feel really weird today. No difference to my chest yet. Those who have had this drug - how long before it started to make a difference to your asthma ( or did it not work for you) and what was your experience of side effects? Did you have to have no caffeine or was some ok? Not happy about not having a morning cuppa, especially if I haven't had a good night's sleep!

I've been taking uniphyllin for 3 years. It took about a week for me to stop feeling sick and maybe a bit longer before I noticed the improvement with my lungs but now I wouldn't be without it!!

Caffeine wise - I'm usually okay with one but any more than that and I'd feel unwell. I think I was told one is okay so I tend to drink decaf at home and then I don't have to worry if someone only has caffeinated when I'm out!

You can get really sick if your levels reach a certain point so if you do feel really unwell it's worth getting them checked.

Thanks Huchins4. At the moment I think they might be making things worse but it could just be the weather! Having my morning tea then decaff and no alcohol until after I've had my first level check this week and hopefully had a sensible conversation with the asthma nurse.

Hi i had really bad headaches and couldn't sleep at all when i started it about 6 months ago. I have my levels checked and they were fine but i got changed onto 1 tablet a day instead of 2 and it has made a huge difference to me. My levels now are really low but because im getting a benefit from it they are leaving it at 1 tablet a day unless i have a massive flair up then i can decide if i want to go onto 2 or not. My amazing asthma nurse said its sometimes worth starting on a lower dose till you get used to it.

Thanks Autie1, good that you got the right advice and the side effects didn't last. You are lucky to have an amazing asthma nurse. Mine isn't great but will see what she says on Thursday.

Hopefully the side effects go soon for you too. Ive had the same asthma nurse since i was 6 im now 33 so she knows me well and knows what doesn't work for me. I have an unusual asthma genotype which means normal combination inhalers dont work for me at all. Uniphyllin has worked brilliantly for me but this is my second time trying it as the first time i didnt respond well to it. I hope you get the advice you need.
