Monetary test and 24hr study

Today I had the first test to look at my oesophageal and then one which will last 24hrs. This involved having a tube down my nose and then throat then swallowing water X 10. Then the tube was taken out and another one put in place and left attached to a recording device measuring my acid reflux. and pressure inside my throat how my values work. I apparently have a small oesophageal.

I now have to record every incident of symptoms and eat things that envoke my symptoms e.g. Cheese and roared peanuts.

The swallowing the tube wasn't bad you do it swallowing water.

I have to go back tomorrow to have the tube taken out.

Dont feel too much like I was standing out. I thank God for giving me the confidence to have this done and my friend who came with me for moral support. I will have the results looked at in two weeks then wait for my appointment with the gastrointestinal.

You are infinitely braver than me! I can't even swallow large pills. I really hope all this will be beneficial for you anyway. It sounds like it's being looked at very seriously which is great. Sending you all best wishes 🖖

You know once aupon a time when I was a teenage I couldn't swallow big tablets. Now I swallow anything big or small. They ask you to swallow water slowly to help you swallow the tube naturally.

Back today to have it removed.

I had it removed which was quick and easy. The nurse uploaded the data from the device that was recorded when I ate and drink and when I felt syptoms. I also had to do a paper diary. The results will take 2 weeks to process and then I wait for an appointment with the Gastroenterology consultant. Will update when I know my results.

I’m glad it all went ok 🙂 Apart from the fact that (to me) (I’m such a baby!) the thought of the tube seems a little scary, it really is great that it’s all being treated so seriously. Too often symptoms are belittled as just side effects of the medication, or getting older, or just something to endure. So I really am happy to know you seem to be being looked after properly here. Thanks for letting us know how you’re getting on.

I had the same thing done a few years ago and the 24 hour monitoring revealed that my acid reflux was so severe that I needed to have fundoplication surgery. The thinking was that the reflux being so bad was triggering the cough reflex..so I had surgery as the coughing was horrendous day and night.

Sadly it transpired that whilst the surgery was a success in relation to dealing with the reflux, it made absolutely no difference whatsoever to my horrible hacking cough.

Everyone said the fundoplication surgery is absolutely terrible but my experience was fine, albeit I wound up in ICU because of intubation problems during surgery.

If you do have severe reflux that requires this surgery don’t worry about it and do not listen to the horror stories. Good luck 👍

My acid reflux has been off and on for the last two years. No helped by several courses of prednsiolone together. I already had an endoscopy last October which showed 3 small erosions so no more ibuprofen or aspirin. The last course of prednisolone which was 3 courses then stopped and then 2 weeks later 3 more courses. The last course really upset my acid reflux. Really sore throat an acid reflux in the mouth yuck! Now I been left with sore throat.

I don't have a cough but constant post nasal drip which started Nov 2017.

I am going to not listen to any horror stories but trust in God for my health, future and my health

As promised an update on my acid reflux. My symptoms are still the same and I not on any mediation at the moment just taking glavison prescripted from the doctor.

I went to the doctor last week to discuss my test results and I do have acid reflux. I am waiting for an appointment to see the consultant to see where we go from there.
