Avamys

Hi, does anyone else have Avamys nasal spray issues? My husband has so far found it by far the best for his hay fever and sinus issues, but was today told at the pharmacy that it cannot be got hold of due to manufacturing issues or something. He has tried Beconase in the past but really ran into trouble with it, so it is not an option. If any of you are having to face the same thing, what are you trying instead? He has had asthma issues in he past, but not for a while now. His hay fever etc are quite bad enough.

Hi the ENT at my local hospital has told me time stop taking it which I have, recommend NeilMed sinus relief kit, has black lid. It might be worth getting appointment with your dr or the professional who recommended avamys to you or advice from them. Good luck 🍀🍀

It was, in fact, my husband’s specialist that did recommend it. My husband has also done various rinses - which helped - and other bits, but he also ended up needing an operation, which helped hugely, but it was obviously a last resort. But the seasonal hay fever is still there, and it can be really bad for him. As Beconase became a really bad problem for him, finding that Avamys helps so well was a relief. Just now he has nothing......not good news. This is due to supply problems. We rang around several pharmacies, and couldn’t get hold of it. So I was wondering if others have had that problem too. I rang Asthma U.K., and, yes, others have also been in touch and reported the same issue. If nothing is sorted he will have to see a doctor.

I've been on Avamys for a couple of years, and found it was brilliant for my hay fever! However due to problems with my one ear they've switched me to Dymista a couple of months ago, and I find it even better than the Avamys! From what my GP said, it's basically Avamys with an added antihistamine, it might be

worth asking your GP if he can reccomend an alternative spray to help? X

Thank you! If all else fails that could be worth asking for. I had wondered about Dymista, but didn’t recognise one ingredient - that must be the antihistamine. He ordered some Avamys online, paid quite a lot of money for it , all in desperation, and just hopes it will arrive today. Some online services also said it was out of stock, but this one didn’t. Hope it is true. I must tell him to make an appointment with them. That will be at least three weeks, so it would be timely. We will see how today pans out. Yesterday someone from the surgery or the pharmacy tried to persuade him to have beconase instead, but it caused him terrible problems.

That's a pain, our GP surgery is the same, about a months wait just to get a phone call back, nightmare! Hopefully it will come today for him, fingers crossed! The first ever spray I tried was Beconase, my nose was constantly bleeding, and my sinuses were that bad I ended up on antibiotics for a month with a nasty case of sinusitis, which was when they finally decided to give me Avamys x

Hi, I went to collect prescription from pharmacy yesterday & was also told no Avamys, may be back into stock in June but meanwhile an alternative would be supplied by the doctor so waiting to see what I’m given....so disappointed as Avamys has worked well with me too since I started it a couple of months ago! Hope he finds something suitable, good luck!

Avamys didn't work for me & I was prescribed Nasonex. I know he really wants Avamys but Nasonex is another possible alternative.

I just found this thread whilst Googling why there were Avamys supply issues. I too got switched with Nasonex, but it's nowhere as good as Avamys to me, The Dymista option looks like a good one as I have to take antihistamines daily too (Mine is for chronic rhinosinusitis).

It turns out that he got his Avamys for his last prescription, so it must have eased here. Long may it last.

Yep.Definate Supply issues at this time. Waiting to learn what I’ve been prescribed instead. Can’t find anything on the Google News Tab when limiting search to only the past month. If anyone has any more info as to what the supply expectation is, please share.

Today he was prescribed Mometasone Furoate nasal spray instead. He has not yet tested it. Hope it works.

I heard somewhere, possibly on here, that ‘they’ are expecting Avamys to be held up until some time in June.

Nasonex is Mometasone Furoate.

Thank you. That is useful to know. He really got into trouble with beconase, (face and nasal passages swelled up after the season was over and lasted for quite some time. He did not look well on it.) so it is good to know what things are, and be able to keep well informed.
