SYMBICORT INHALER

I too was put on Symbicort after being on Clenil Modulite. Over a period of time, my breathing went worse and I was told by my GP to increase the dose, little did I know then that this would only make me worse and I ended up in a terrible state fighting for breath. During this period I was given different antibiotics but all to no avail so I decided to ask the doctor if I could come off Symbicort and go back to my Clenil Modulite to see if it was the Symbicort that was causing me to be breathless and within two weeks the improvement proved beyond doubt that this inhaler was the cause of me being breathless. This proves to me that Symbicort isn't right for everyone

For me it has been the other way round. Clenil always made me cough when I took it. For me Symbicort has been great! As you say we are all different.

I have had many different inhalers over the years. Some have had no effect, some have definitely made me worse and some have definitely helped. Yes, we are all different and I am fortunate to have GP's who listen to me when something isn't right. I know that others are not always so fortunate.

You are so right...symbicort has worked for me for over 10 years but it does not work for everyone. I am sure that all the reasons that we have airway problems have to do with our own anatomy as well as the different bacteria that can set us on an asthma attack or asthma worsening. I say if something works for you...stay with it.

That exact thing happend to me a couple of weeks ago. I was on Relvar 92, and my doctor changed to symbicort 160. I could not take it for more than 3 days because all my symptoms were back.

It is the second time they tried to change my treatment with Relvar, without success. Maybe fluticasone works better for some of us.

Fluticasone works brilliantly for me. Twice in the past five years I’ve had doctors suggest a switch (one of those being a consultant), on both occasions I refused. There’s a saying which some doctors should perhaps take note of: “If it ain’t broke, don’t try and fix it”.

Thanks Maggie. All of this asthma thing it's new to me and im 32 years old. Are you on relvar too?

in reply to Julia1986

I’m on Flixotide 250. I was started on the 125 strength over twenty years ago, but that strength was increased within five years or so. I was switched to it from Becotide (Beclometasone) which never completely controlled my asthma. Prior to that I was on IntalCo, which I was put on aged 8, having been an undiagnosed asthmatic for five years (not unusual in the 1960s), and which changed my life. For eighteen years that mostly controlled my asthma, until I moved to a different area of the country and started to have problems with it. Not long after IntalCo was discontinued, so I would have had to come off it anyway.
