Hi everyone, currently having a flare G.P has given me 40mg pred for 7 days without taper is this the norm? On day 3 still feel tight chested cough a little better. Also I’m on seretide 250 2 puffs x day and over the last couple of months have found that it seems to make my symptoms worse I have been on it for about 5 years with no problems about 1 hour after taking it through spacer I start to cough anyone else had this happen I would interested to know.

Thanks

Regarding prednisolone, I am always prescribed it for 5 or 7 days, mostly seven. Once I had it for just short of three weeks. I have never been advised to taper. I did ask when I had my longer prescription, but was told that the norm is to do tapers only when the prescription is for more than 3 weeks. So far it has been OK, though the week after pred I do tend to be far more tired than usual, until my body has righted itself again.

Mostly 40mg per day (8 tablets), but once 30 (6 tablets per day).

If you are struggling with coming off them it is important you talk to you gp or asthma nurse about it!

The first time I had them, I was slow to respond to them - I did not improve as fast as expected. Since then it has been fine, but I don’t generally feel that instant lift that some people do. But there is nevertheless no doubt in my mind they help me!

Like a lot of other people on here my GP is less than understanding where asthma is concerned as are the nurses just a few questions and that’s it at the reviews sadly I gather more info on here to be honest and find it very useful just hoping by the end of the 7 days I feel better thankyou

Yes I was pot on 40mg of pred with no taper also and no it is been a taper off drug since I have been on it in the past, for 15 years. Now I'm on symbicort 260 which doesn't help at 4 puffs a day, I really need 8 or 10 but my Dr won't do it so I have to struggle to breath but I hope you have some better luck getting better soon, not being able to breath stinks.keep going and get better..😎

Spoke with my home nurse and she said anything under 50 mg of pred. doesn't need to be tapered unless you are taking it for a long time like 2 or 3 weeks or more now, it won't affect your renal glanced at that short of time period. Good to know😎

Yes, I invariably cough about an hour later after my preventer inhaler, always have done. It doesn’t last very long on the whole and isn’t a big fit or anything.
