Anyone had their Clenil dose increased?

Hi! I currently take Clenil 100mcg 2 puffs twice a day, after being diagnosed with asthma. I came off it after hay fever season ended, and all was perfect until I came down with a cold 6/7 weeks later so was back on it and needed steroids... I now have another cold for the last week (perks of working in a nursery and having rubbish sinuses!) during my last flare up the GP said to speak to asthma nurse to make sure she was happy with the dosage of clenil, and by the time I got in to see her everything had settled perfectly, she did me an asthma plan and told me to stay on the clenil as I had been and she was happy to keep the dose the same as she said that it’s only when I have triggers such as viruses and hay fever that I have any symptoms and I’d bounced back so quickly with the steroids, and my asthma has been completely perfectly controlled since until I came down with this 2nd cold! My question is, at what point did others have the dose increased? My peak flow is very slightly above my yellow zone but seems stable, but I’ve had to use my ventolin yesterday due to the cold weather on top of this virus making me cough horrendously, and this afternoon I’ve had to use it as I felt a little out of breath and my peak flow dropped into the top of my yellow zone (came straight back up to where I would normally be on a good day though after although has started to drop slightly again now but still in green!) I have made an appointment to see the asthma nurse again but earliest appointment is in a months time! I was just curious as to whether others had their dose of clenil increased for flare ups like this when everything has been stable beforehand, and whether I should try and get in sooner with a gp, or whether to just see how things go following my asthma plan? All it says on mine is if I drop to yellow I have to have a review!

Sorry for the long post! I’m new to all of this, and it’s all a mind field coming to terms with it, and appointments/phone calls at my surgery are so hard to come by at the moment!

Like you i suffer from an allergy (house dust mite) and I stop taking my clenil in the summer.

I will adjust my dose to however I feel, you know your body better than a nurse or doctor that sees you for 10mins.

Use your common sense, dont exceed the maximum dose and if you feel particularly bad or poorly for a long period see a doctor.

I had to have my completely changed as I was over dosing on mine to keep my asthma over control. I am extremely lucky I have the right one for me now

Thanks! I’m going to go for my review even if it’s a month away anyway, even though I only had one in December I’m worried things will get worse when hay fever kicks in, at the moment I’m following my plan and hoping for the best!

Thank you! Sensible advice, at the moment I’m just following my asthma plan and keeping my fingers crossed it stays stable or I’ll be phoning them for advice! My asthma plan just says that if I use my ventolin 3x a week or my peak flow drops below 397 then to book a review.....! Thanks for replying x

Try caffeine that will also help. But get to your doctor's soon as possible if it doesn't stay stable

in reply to

Thank you! Haha literally living off caffeine at the moment! Yeah I will be if I get any worse, thank you!

I had asthma about 3 years so I have learned a few things that helps.

It’s such a massive learning curve isn’t it?! I’m paediatric first aid trained as part of my job of working in a nursery, and I know a few people with asthma, but there is so much to learn after being diagnosed myself and it’s a massive mind field! Places like this forum are so helpful!

Just listen to your body and what the medical profession say. All we can do is advice you. I have found caffeine, and a spacer helps. A spacer helps you get more air into your lung's to breath better

Thank you! Since being diagnosed I’ve found the advice from this forum, and from my pharmacist too, more helpful than the gp/nurse - I find that they tend to focus on the big picture, such as this is what it is and here you go take this, but not so much on the little tips and advice that really help! Oh yes, I always use my spacer for my preventer, and 99% of the time with my reliever too as I find it helps! Thank you x

Use steradent active plus to clean it in warm water. Have a spare one to use while cleaning one out

in reply to

Ooh thanks for the tips, will definitely do that to clean it! And thanks for advice about 2nd spacer too, definitely sounds like a good idea!

I have one I use at home. I have I take to college. I use my college one when I am home cleaning one. This is something I learned. I have both my fostair and blue inhaler by my bed. I also have caffeine by my bed. I also carry both inhaler's with me when I am out as I have been caught sort a few times

in reply to

That sounds like a good idea actually, to keep one at home and one in my work bag! Did you buy your own or did you get 2 prescribed?

in reply to

I got both given to me by my GP's. I lost one so I went to get an other one and then I found my lost one. So I decided to use one at home and college. But college one at home when cleaning
