When’s enough, enough?

This year has been so rough with steroids in March, June, 2 lot in August, antibiotics for chest infection September and 2 lots steroids in Oct/ Nov.

It’s not even been 6 weeks since my last course of steroids, and my peak flow is so up & down. Good levels one evening & low come the morning & generally all over.

Feel like I’m headed to another course. All the hospital has done since last time I had an exacerbation was book a physio appointment to help me breathe better but that’s not until the end of February.

Are you seeing a chest clinic or an asthma clinic?

Asthma Clinic (I’m sure). As at first I was seen by one consultant and was referred on to the another consultant who specialise in asthma, as they couldn’t control it.

I’m waiting to hear if I can trial injections, but in the meantime got an appointment in Feb for physio.

So sorry. I was told if my breathing is not good go straight to the hospital. Recently for two weeks of fever, cold and wheezing my family demand that they take me to the doctor or hospital. I refused. Slowly getting better. Never walk for three weeks. Feeling are not nice. My granddaughters come with flu and rest assured that I will get twice as much fever wheezing and cold again. I use to take that flu vaccine but use to be sick like a doggie all winter. Then again in spring and summer my asthmatic becomes a problem. I hope everything works out for you. Take care.

There’s so much going round & it hits all so hard whenever we get anything!

Hospitals & me don’t really get along as have bad experiences. I’m back to the drs tomorrow, I don’t feel the worst I’ve felt, I just know when things aren’t running smoothly.

If your peak flow is generally worse in the morning, can you sleep more upright, either using pillows or you can get things known as 'wedges' to help keep you more upright (available on amazon as well as local social services, but you'd likely have a long wait).

My peak flow is like a roller coaster; some mornings it’s high, some evenings it’s low and vice versa.

I sympathise as I am exactly the same. I've had adult onset asthma for 10 years but the last 18 months have been the worst. I am now semi permanently on prednisolone. Every 4 week or so, I have to take 2-3 steroids tablets a day for about a week. They are the only thing that will dilate my airways and clear my chest. But the tightness and phlegm are returning ever quicker. I have been on all the inhalers and am on highest strength Fostair. Have seen specialists but nothing has really helped.

I really just don’t want to be on steroid tablets Permanently. I feel there must be so many more options to explore.

I know - being on steroids permanently is not good at all. Very bad in fact from what my GP has told me, and from what I've read. I would say I am on them a quarter to semi-permanent but even that is too much. It is very much a last resort and I worry about what it is doing to my body.

I was born with asthma as my grandfather died with asthmatic. Anyone who had a cold come near me I'm like a magnetic field. I catch flu that buzz past by me. Grrrrrrrrr
