Reaction to FOSTAIR ?

Hello Folks,

I've recently been asked to double my Fostair intake to control wheezing etc. I've noticed I am beginning to develop "the shakes". It's not obvious but my young niece holding my hand crossing the road said " Uncle why are you shaking ?" Anyone had the same reaction to medication or is it the start of more tests ? Gratis

I was prescribed this a week ago and quit after three days and went back to seratide. Nope not told consultant yet.

I couldn’t get used to how weird it was, that initial breath in when using it.

I find all inhalers give me the slight shakes though.

I used to be on fostair and like many had a slight tremor initially, for me over time it reduced (about 2-4weeks I think... it was about 2-3 years ago tho 😅). If it gets worse go back to your GP otherwise try to stick it out if you feel like it’s working on the asthma, and the only side effect is the mild shakes! If it doesn’t calm down overtime and/or interferes with life also go back!

I was the same as you. I have my asthma stable now. I see watch my peak flow and how much of my blue but I mainly have my asthma stable

I’m now a severe/difficult asthmatic, and after 3(ish) years of multiple a&e trips and hosp admissions I’m only now starting to feel a little bit more stable (just started mepolizumab)😫😒 hence my jealousy of your stability 😅😂

I used to live an active lifestyle before I had asthma. I biked or walked everywhere. I still walk everywhere. I just listen to my body more. The doctor's say because I lived a healthy lifestyle and still do it helped me have stable asthma. Of course it can still get upset but most of the time it is stable

I was an elite gymnastic/trampolinist til I was 17. At the time I was only EIA, however I spiralled to severe whilst at uni, and now I have a stupid amount of triggers. My past sports history does mean I have a great best PF/lung function when I’m well and my bones haven’t suffered to much(yet) from all the pred. The improved lung capacity is probably one reason why I have yet to be intubated. Sometimes it just happens 😕

Ditto I was a fit marathon runner but began to struggle just walking to the gym. In the last year I became an elite couch potato. My nether regions disappeared beneath my belly. Fostair has been a revelation and I'm inspired to push myself within my capabilities. My dear old Ma would say "Make the most of what you have as you're a long time dead."

Yes it gives you the shakes if you take more than two puffs twice a day. I was taking up to twelve with no reliever and was a total mess, couldn't hold a cup or cut food it was so bad, my family thought I had something neurological. Stopped it and went back to seretide now shake free. Just be watchful and tell your doctor or nurse about your symptoms.😀

Thanks all for sharing your experiences of Fostair. It appears not to be the start of something more serious. I'm will just Shake,Rattle and Roll for the time being.

Hi I too suffer from mild shakiness and cramp on Fostair which has lessened over the past 2 years. Last year I increased the dose to 4 puffs twice a day when my asthma worsened due to a bad cold / sinus infection. The shakes became worse and my GP swapped 100/6 to 200/6 which was great and settled my cough really well. The shakes were less evident with that inhaler. I did however suffer from a sore mouth . You just can’t win can you?

Ask your doctor or nurse for advice. It could be your body is getting used to it as it back combination of 2 steroids to help you breath better.

It will be the formoterol in the foatair... which is the long acting bronchodilator... the shakes should only last a while after taking the dose and sadly it's one of the common side effects of all bronchodilators (ventolin, salmeterol etc)... they can also make you feel a bit dizzy

I am on Fostair and have been fine with it.... but I havent ever had the dose doubled... I hope you get some answers...
