I sympathise - incense does for me too! I am not a regular churchgoer but often sing in various denominations. One particular Catholic church had to be the worst incense wise, especially at Easter and Christmas.

Yeah, me, too! Incense sticks and scented candles, especially some varieties drive me away. Or, indeed, anything burning is suspect. I have even - briefly - reacted on burnt toast! My current biggest bugbear are woodburners as many friend have them.

I assume that is the woodburner, not the toaster!

I wish the friends I have would realise how polluting woodburners are! As it is a group of them try to be considerate but even just a little bit can be off putting, though it is not always the same.

Air fresheners, hair spray, perfume, chemicals in household cleaning materials, oil paints, any VOCs. As you say, burnt stuff, though I am not sure I am quite as reactive as you. Rooms cleaned the day before with suspect stuff. Cigarettes, yes.....

I like to sit at the back, near to the door so if it gets too much, I can get out quickly.

I understand why I was twitchy Sunday night now - I’ve a dodgy throat. Virus. 🙈

I can relate to what happens with incense being used during certain masses I find it difficult at funerals as it turn me into a coughing maniac excuse the punt , it is so embarrassing .

At my mum's funeral (full on Requiem Mass) we had asked them to limit incense as much as possible, especially as I would need to sit at the front as family and couldn't really sneak out! They did and told me don't worry there is only one bit with incense now. They *didn't* tell me it would involve swinging the censer over the coffin 3 feet away from me! Cue massive coughing fit.
