My asthma is usually pretty well controlled but recently I constantly have a wheeze.
I have had two course of preds, two lots of antibiotics.
I’m taking my other meds as normal but still wheezy.
In the 52 year of having quite severe asthma it’s quite rare I can’t get it under control.
I do have an appointment next week with a chest doctor etc for X-rays.
But wondered if anyone else gets like this and has advice

I'm about your age and have gone through the same cycle. After many years of controlled asthma, my health started to decline early this year. Previously 1 puff of symbicort and twice daily is all what I needed. Certainly not now!. In addition to symbicort I am now on neulin and montelucast which help moderately. Even with extra pills I am not 100 %. At most 70-80 %. I guess it's a sign of ageing. Consider topping-up the medications as this would help. Regardless, consult your GP first.

I’m already on seratide 250, montelukast 10mg and ventolin. So it seems I’m on a constant cycle of steroids on top.
I can’t really pinpoint anything other than stress but that’s clearing now.
I don’t want to walk anywhere etc as I get so wheezy. I feel like I’ve aged 20 years because everything is a struggle.
I do have a chest clinic appointment on the 6th as haven’t had chest x Rays for years.
One thing I discovered lately that I am overly sensitive to dusts and anything which emits strong smells like perfume or antibacterial bath soap. Even an air freshener can trigger the attack. So I avoid these chemicals as much as I could. As for the dusts I have installed the air purifier in my bedroom and turn it on everytime I go to sleep. It helps.
On reflection what do you think contributed to both your asthma worsening? Do you think you can pick one particular thing?
I like you had well controlled asthma my whole life and then had uncontrolled asthma since april which would fluctuate wildly and had a course of pred.
After monitoring my peak flow My GP and I worked out it was not asthma causing my problems.
What was it?
As I’ve read that lung cancer can cause a wheeze which is freaking me out.
Not 100% sure, but probably silent reflux (LPR) and or VCD.
Having lung cancer is incredibly rare, Ive had cancer and my lungs have been x-rayed a few times and are clear.
There are quite a few causes of breathing issues, what are your PF readings like when your breathing is bad?
I guess I’m getting scared as i can’t ever remember a time when steroids didn’t cure a persistent wheeze.
I have a hiatus hernia as well.
My normal PF is about 350, I don’t have a monitor at home as to be honest I’ve not needed to worry that much.
You can buy one online they are very cheap, I got one from medisave
I have severe brittle asthma and was controlled up until june 2016 and everyhting has gone downhill since my consultant says it is very aggressive and we have been teying everythin to control it i take seretide 500 accuhaler flixotide 500 accuhaler braltus zonda inhaler ventolin 6 times a day salbitomol nebumisers 4 times a day also have uniphylin montelukast carbocisteine prednisolone daily 40mg for the past 2 years azythromycin 3 times a week oxycodone gabapentin termazepam nasal sprays fenofexadine mirtazepine and other medication for brittle bones i am waitin for nucala injections and bronchial thermoplasty in and out of icu still no closer to gettin it under control just dont no wot will b next i have to see my consultant every 4 weeks due to the severity of my asthma hope you can find a treatment plan that gets yours under control

Yes mines brittle asthma, not the easiest to treat is it.
