Chlamydia Pneumoniae Treatment

Hi everyone. I'm desperate for someone to help me. I have been very sick for 2 years, and during all that time, no doctor has ever been able to find what was wrong with me.

I have finally been diagnosed with Chlamydia Pneumoniae, and I'm a bit scared of what I've read online when it come to success rate as far as treatment is concerned.

I have an appointment with my GP in 3 days, and I don't know yet what antibiotic he is going to prescribe to me.

After 2 years of trying **everything** - in vain - to cure myself from that my "mysterious illness", I feel like I am condemned to be sick my whole life and that I might as well commit suicide now and be done with all the pain and suffering.

Other people on here who have dealt with Chlamydia Pneumoniae, what was your treatment like? What antibiotic were you prescribed? Did you get cured? How long did your treatment last?

Thank you.

A desperate 30-something woman.

Hi healthy18,

I had it last year. I'd had for about a month but felt okay-ish. Progressively my asthma deteriorated and I ended up in ITU very ill. They diagnosed it there and said I must have been around birds or lizards? I'd been around neither but had been staying in a hotel recently so they said it's easily spread through coughing even if the other person appears fine.

They put me in an isolated room and barrier nursing as it's extremely contagious. Was on IV antibodies and antivirals alongside the usual asthma drugs. I was in for a month and felt horrible but it did get better! Probably took me a further two months upon leaving to feel back to normal but that was also due to the severity of the asthma attack that took me in.

It does get better but definitely fight for them to be taking it seriously. If you are also asthmatic, they should be extra vigilant as any infection in the lungs will mess with your asthma.

Feel free to PM me if you want a chat/any more detailed information. I'll try to remember the name of the antibiotics but I just remember most nurses and doctors had never dealt with it before so it was unusual!

Thank you for your thorough reply, Hunchins. Are you sure that's the Chlamydia Pneumoniae that you had? From what I read, the Pneumoniae kind is spread only between humans. The one affecting birds is a different one named "Chlamydia Psittaci". Either way, thank you for sharing your success story. Thankfully, based on my overall blood test results, I'm not as sick as you were and I'm not asthmatic. What worries me though is that I have the "chronic" kind of the infection. I guess I'll see how it goes. Either way, thanks for your comforting words. I really appreciate it, and I'm happy that you survived and won over that very nasty bacteria.

Hi, Definitely Chlamydia pneumoniae. But I do think there's acute and chronic.. I obviously had the acute type. Hopefully you'll start feeling better with the antibiotics! Take it easy and ask for help when you need it (I know I'm bad at that!)

Imagine they’ll try Azithromycin or one of the other Macrolides. You might be on it for a long time, three months or more. Suggest a web search for Azithromycin Chlamydia.
