Eosiniphilic asthma - do you work full time?

Just wondering how many of you have eosiniphilic asthma and are in full time employment? Does your employer make any allowances?

Do you mean severe asthma? Quite a few people with severe asthma don't have eosinophilic asthma.

I can't say about time off to eg get mepolizumab treatments but I work full time with severe (non-allergic, non-eosinophilic) asthma and have been lucky enough to have good employers who make reasonable adjustments. This has included removing the spray air freshener from the toilets and letting me work from home when needed, especially when weather or air conditions are bad.

I told HR right at the start about the asthma and also said I was sensitive to sprays, paint etc.so could they warn me if possible about renovations?

I have churg strauss. One of the symptoms is esinophilic asthma. My manager has been an absolute bitch. I have not been at work since March and am looking at medical retirement due to being ill and chronically tired. Occupational health were helpful when i had time off and would arrange phased returns but every time I had a coughing fit my manager would raise her eyebrows and huff loudly and say things like I can't run a service with inconsistent work from you. It made me very tearful and anxious

Hi!

I have Churg too. It started with the severe uncontrolled asthma which was later diagnosed as non allergenic esophilic asthma. ( I ended up telling them!! I saw Churg on Sky Mustery Diseases.. real lightbulb moment & I was right..)

I went to hell & back with work.. A civil service job at the Meteorological Office

in Jersey. I suddenly went down with this in 2009. It started with a severe barking cough 24/7, with, as the Gp said to Soc Sec ( your deep) rapid deterioration. Work didn’t want to know, & just wanted me out. It was only the Union that secured me Ill Health Retirement, otherwise I would have been kicked out the door for being off sick 6 weeks in a year.. After 25 years service! It was an utterly stressful time. They were PIGS!

PLEASE ensure you are a member of a union & let them know what’s happening..

Let me know how you get on. If you’d like to message me privately I’m v happy to give you my email so we can chat, if you like.

DONT LET THE BUGGERS GET YOU DOWN!

Bestest wishes

Rose

Hi Rose thank you for this. I am in the union but they were bloody awful. The OT has been brilliant and I am due to see an independent one on 1st November to see if I qualify for medical retirement. Work OT said it should be no problem. It will be hard losing my wage but I can't work. Would love to chat with you as I don't know anyone who has this condition. It gets quite lonely. My email is joanne.omahoney@hotmail.co.uk or you can find me on Facebook.
