There is no cure for asthma, but you can control it with the right medications.

As Bobcat says, there is no cure. Trust me, it's not for lack of trying in most of our cases. Complementary medicine is, at best, simply about trying to live a healthy lifestyle but at worst a fraud perpetrated on vulnerable and very unwell people.

You can & should make sure that you have the right medication, as that is what will support the management of your symptoms. Anything complementary that you find works for you, then absolutely use it, but as well as, not instead of, proper medication.

Please feel free to share what you are going through as many people on here might be able to help you find a workable balance.

Hi I agree with the others in that we cannot help you as there is no cure for asthma. If there was there wouldn't need to be this site as none of us would have it! It's a case of managing it. x

Unfortunatley there is no known cure for asthma. Do no be dissapointed since you can lead an almost ordinary life with the right control.

My suggestion is you try Buteyko breathing technique and daily exercise (even if its just a short walk) and also find out what you are allergic to.

I want to gently point out that traditional medicine does not know of a cure for asthma, not that one can never exist. I suspect there is not one single cure for asthma, since there are different types and many triggers.

In my case, I am seeing a qualified doctor who is also an herbalist. I have adverse reactions to albuterol, but I would take it if necessary. Since my doctor gave me lobelia drops for attacks, I haven't had to use my rescue inhaler. They work for me.

My doctor believes she may know the root cause of my asthma. I'm hoping that is so and that we can eradicate it. However, I'm better off already.

A word of caution if you seek an alternative treatment: do your research and trust your instincts. As mentioned, there are quacks out there, and it pays to be careful.

Asthma UK and medical research are working towards finding a cure. Not there yet but check the website.

Too much money to be made, don't ever count on a cure

Whilst I’ve always lived in hope that one day they will find a cure, the cynical side of me has always said that drug companies make too much money off asthma so no ‘cure’ will ever be found.

To be fair, if they weren't willing to invest money we wouldn't have the treatments we have now. The industry does have its issues including drug pricing etc and I will criticize when it's deserved, but they also invest in gene therapy for other things - very expensive up front yes but potentially curative.

I have been an asthma sufferer for 50 years and I have spent a fair amount of time learning and investigating asthma, I have been involved in 3 clinical studies.

Anyone claiming a cure for asthma is not being honest and it will invariably be a con.

There are many excellent treatments for asthma and there is a lot of continual research.

The only foreseeable cure in the future will be with gene therapy but due to the complexity and number of genes involved in asthma this may not be possible.
