Am I alone?

So there’s context, i had an asthma exacerbation a few weeks ago now after a chest infection and have been on a cocktail of different meds.

I am now feeling like I’m almost being poisoned by the inhalers!

Just taken my salamol (using spacer) and, not for the first time, it’s like something hard is being forced down my neck into my chest. My glands in my neck went rock solid and hurt a lot, I now feel like I have heartburn and have a pain in my chest and am now doing the obligatory shaking like a leaf. Was supposed to be taking the kids out and now am having to lie down. Am I alone in this?

Thanks for replying. my drs and nurses have been amazing and I’m seeing them very regularly at the moment. Just wondered whether it was just me that had those sorts of symptoms on taking inhalers? I don’t really know many asthmatics to talk these questions through with.

Hi Esacla.. I get the shakes with my salbutamol but never experienced anything in my throat. Might be worth giving 111 a call for a bit of advice if it’s affected you so badly! Better to be safe than sorry xx

Salbutamol always gives me the shakes and I find that if I’ve had that, or Atrovent through a neb, I get headaches and aches in my legs. Pred tablets can also give you heartburn, as if the attacks alone aren’t enough to put up with! 😂

It could be that if you’ve had a lot it’s dried out your throat, I’ve had oral thrush from all the meds before so might be worth checking out with your doctor, especially to make sure it’s not an allergic reaction. I’ve been known to swill my mouth out with water before after lots of meds to try and avoid the hoarse throat.

You aren’t alone! Inhalers of any kind make me feel that way! I’m trying everything I can to approach it naturally. Research garlic/honey, ginger, mullein tea, breathing techniques, and even consider a plant based diet. Allow with feeling poisend, inhalers make me anxiety ridden.
