Hi all, I read a report today of a study being undertaken down under of children who had their adenoids and or tonsils removed before the age of 10. I had my adenoids removed when I was 6. The study finds that kids are more susceptible to long term infections, such as asthma, if they have had this procedure done when young. My question is how many of us have had either, or both of those procedures done when young? It will be interesting to see your replies.

Had mine removed in 1937 when I was 5.
They were causing my asthma! So the doctors said!
Now in my 86th year and still have asthma.
I had both of mine removed when I was 4 in 1999.
I don’t really remember much about it though aside from being excited about the ice cream I got to eat after!
I still have my tonsils and adenoids even though I had a lot of tonsillitis etc as a child, developed asthma aged 27 now 53 .My daughter had her tonsils /adenoids removed aged 5 had childhood asthma for a few years from around 9 yrs old but was in perfect health prior to it developing and outgrew it by the time she left school she’s now aged 33
I had my adenoids removed aged 6. Now I am 69. I got my definite diagnosis of asthma 4 years ago, but I think the signs were always there. I have always been prone to lots of coughing.
Tonsils and adenoids removed at the age of 4 . I’ve always been prone to chest and ear infections , diagnosed with with late onset asthma now I’m in my fifties.
Hi. I am one of those who had both tonsils and adenoids removed, aged 5! I was fine, having suffered everything before, but once I started teaching I was susceptible to infections - kids and germs! I was diagnosed with asthma in my mid 40s and am currently suffering from severe hay fever, for which I have been given medication called Montelukast. I also have a thyroid related condition-a Rathke’s cyst-which doesn’t help!
I’ve had asthma since I was little and haven’t had either removed. I often wonder if I’d do better without tonsils as I get loads of throat infections which often spread to my chest.
On the other hand, if the tonsils act as a filter for airborne allergens (just a guess but would make sense imo) then maybe removing them isn’t so good for asthmatics.
Had both mine removed when I was 11, so I guess it doesn't count, but my colds have been legendary! Had bronchitis twice as a teenager, hayfever from 17 and diagnosed with late onset asthma (plus fixed small airways obstruction) at 66. Whether any of the latter was the result of the tonsillectomy is anyone's guess, but I was glad to get rid of them after 4 bouts on tonsillitis in one year. However, current thinking seems to be that it's better to suffer early than mess up your immune system for later on. Pity you can't put them back in!

Had tonsil /adenoids out aged 10 previously had sever asthma. Nothing changed. Only discovered much later a few years ago by accident that I’m sensitive to coal fires. Asthma much much better now. I’m 55
I had both removed at age 11 so not as young as the study suggests. I was relatively healthy growing up but did get a lot of colds and flu. I became plagued by allergies in my teens and was first diagnosed with asthma in my twenties though it was very mild back then. When I would get a cold I always seemed to get much sicker then everyone else nursing the same virus and it took me longer to shake it.
I had them both removed when I was 8 and I was diagnosed with asthma at 12 and I'm 18 now so maybe it's true
Hi, I had my adenoids removed in 1970; I was 4. Two of my sons had their adenoids removed around 6 years of age but none of us have asthma. My partner kept both his adenoids and tonsils and suffers terribly with asthma,

Had my tonsils removed c. age 7 and recall they had quite a problem getting me into hospital in between bouts of ... asthma! So had it before, and of course still have it now 50 years later. Didn't have much effect, I guess.
Hi, yes I had both my tonsils and adenoids removed aged 6 years, had asthma as a child with some bad asthma attacks then I grew out of it as a teenager only for it to return at age 47 years and I’ve bern on antibiotics for six years now, montelukast and the usual asthma pumps, will be interesting to find out results of the study, thanks
Yes I am now a grandmother but many years ago I had my tonsils and adenoids removed when I was 4 years ol. I have been healthy most of the time but have now been diagnosed with late onset asthma. My younger daughter had her tonsils removed aged 6 and 11 years ago as a young woman she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. My mother, one of my sisters, and one of my daughters have been diagnosed with RA.
