cetirizine-hydrochloride Relvar Ellipta Montelukast

Anyone taking any of these? How are you finding them ? I Got prescribed them all today and it seems like quite a mix!

Forgive me if you already know this - the cetirizine is anti histamine, the montelukast is the anti- leukotrine and the relvar is your long acting reliever and steroid inhaler. I’m assuming you’ve been stepped up to these drugs gradually.

I’ve been on the cetirozine and montelukast plus Seretide - it’s a fairly common mix of the three things to fight asthma I think. If you’re worried it’s good to talk to a dr or nurse. Hopefully they’ll help you feel better!

Thanks for replying. No gradual stepping up. I Was on fostsair 200/6 that was it then changed to all this. Just seemed like quite a lot and would of preferred to try maybe only one thing first and gradually introduce others.

I’ve been on this combination for about 6 months now I’m suffering from severe allergic asthma it’s helped a bit but still have a really bad problem with mucus so lots of coughing especially when I lie down at night going back to see my consultant next month. Not had any bad side effects though.

Hi Lesley thanks for replying. What are your allergies? Mine is dustmites. Not sure if it’s severe or not but I certainly feel rotten and have difficulty breathing.

Hi strangely I’m not allergic to house dust mites or dogs and cats but I have a really bad pollen and Mould allergy but I’m sure there’s something else I’m wondering if it’s also a food problem as my symptoms come on in so many different situations I don’t think anyone who doesn’t have a breathing problem realises how exhausting it is to not be able to breath properly I feel your pain

Hi Lesley, I don’t think people undserstand as you just get on with your daily business and even though it’s a struggle you cope. It’s horrendous. Do you use an air purifier or de humidifier? I think that may be an option for me.

Yes I have a couple of the large dyson air purifiers one in the bedroom and one in my lounge I think they make a difference but there are so many factors that come into play I’m never really sure what’s helping lol good luck and I hope it works for you x

Hi I was on this combination for a while. Now on fexofenadine instead of cetirizine and have another inhaler added in. I have severe asthma with allergies.

It can take a while to get the combination of meds right. I have better control now than I did before but still have tricky days.

I try to keep an eye on my peak flow and I keep in touch with my asthma nurse if I am having a lot of changes or worrying symptoms.

Hi Emily thanks for replying. No one has ever told me the severity of the asthma that I have. To me it seems severe but not really sure where I stand with that. Really hoping this combination works. Glad you’ve found something that works for you. Did they say if they would gradually wean you off some of them ?

For me now I think it’s pretty unlikely - I would need to have better control day to day, my allergies are a mix of seasonal and all the year round so I take antihistamine every day.

If you got your symptoms under control for a fairly long time they might talk about reducing or you could talk to asthma nurse about it. I think they aim to have people’s symptoms under control on the lowest medication they can manage on long term.

My severe asthma diagnosis came from the consultant. Everyone’s asthma is different, mine has only been like this for a few years.

I’m on a similar mix for my severe asthma. I have a strong allergic response with multiple food and other allergies. I take some other drugs too on the advice of an immunologist. We have fiddled over the years to getting lowest doses that allow a “normal “ life and less admissions.

As others have said everyone different and you need to do whTs best for you.

Cetirizine doesn't work for me, so I now take fexofenadine. I also take Montelukast which has helped, but not fully controlled my asthma (probably, I started at the time of year my asthma is usually best). I've never taken the other one as I take Fostair.
