Hi, does anyone know if there is any alternative to this medication. I would really like to stop taking it because of the side effects, but every time I try my asthma flares up again.

Singulair (montelukast) has fewer side effects but doesn't work as well as some inhaled medications for asthma and allergies.

Yeah Singular is a good add on option, it’s usually added on as a 2nd or 3rd line treatment.

Good luck

Sorry PMR, I was wondering what problems 'hidden' had experienced.

Hi

I am on Zafirlukast and am being changed back to montelukast (I don’t know why, pharmacist just phoned last week to say my prescription was changed)

I have to admit I’m not 100% happy as I had better symptom relief with zafirlukast.

I hope you find what is best for you xxx

America

Hi interested in your post. Was recently prescribed zafirlukast because I can not take montelukast.

Have been told that there is no other alternative. Hope this of some sort of help

I used Montelukast for a few months but then my main steroid inhaler was changed from Clenil Modulite to Fostair (due to poor asthma symptom control). This gives me far better symptom control, my peak flow went from 450 average to 500 average and I found I could stop using the Montelukast (which gave me very vivid dreams) without needing an alternative.
