Cold/allergy/asthma?

Last week I started with what I thought was a cold, blocked up nose, chesty cough, but I wonder now as the blocked nose comes and goes. I do however now have a trickle down my throat which is pretty gross. Chesty cough is productive but doesn't look infected. Coinciding with that, I've been feeling short of breath, needing to take deep breaths and like my lungs are half full even after I've had a good cough and am no longer rattling.

I am waiting for a GP appointment, but in the meantime, is it my asthma, or just the cold ? Or could it be an allergy? (I realise I'm probably asking the impossible, sorry)

Peak flow is definitely lower at 65-75%, and ventolin does ease the breathlessness so I'm assuming it is my asthma.

It could be due to the cold, but I would still get your asthma symptoms checked out. I have found from experience that the sooner I address asthma issues, the quicker I recover overall from whatever was causing me to be ill. The only time that didn't work was when I had proper flu. If you leave symptoms, then the mucus is allowed to build up in your lungs from the asthma symptoms which means you are more likely to get a chest infection. Don't feel bad about bugging your doctor or nurse. They would rather you keep on top of your asthma symptoms than end up in hospital. Hope you feel better soon. x

Might be worth trying an antihistamine - can't do any harm, and I found that using Beconase all year round reduced "cold" symptoms in winter. But then I am a hayfever sufferer with late onset asthma, so the two are probably connected, at least in my case.

I do usually get hayfever but not until June time, and with different symptoms, 😂 but as you say, no harm and definitely worth trying my usual antihistamine. Also have adult onset asthma!
