Hi

I am new to here I have been reading all the old posts about reacurring croup. So here goes my story.

My daughter is under ENT and respiratory she is on seretide montuklast and ventolin, she has not long has her tonsils out in jan this year. My daughter gets croup every single month from Oct last year it starts off with the croup bark cough after the cough is not as harsh, but she develops a none stop chronic cough and is exhausted with this and sent home from school, the only thing that stops this cough is a course of prednisone. I am so worried the amount of steriods my daughter has had a course every month since Oct! My daughter also when she jumps up and down is sometimes sick- so respiratory have given me some azithomizin to take Monday wed fri untill she is back next in clinic which is the 17th of this month. I just feel like I’m not getting anywhere with this constant croup and we are due to see ENT this week what shall I say? And any idea if this is ENT problem or respiratory I am just going around in circles. Does anyone else have this same problem?

Thanks

Hi Tconnor and welcome. I can’t really help except to say that I had croup as a child, but not as often as your daughter. No inhalers about then so just a steamy bathroom, a soothing warm drink and a salt and water gargle! My baby granddaughter had croup too before Christmas and was given a steroid injection in the walk-in centre. The cold-type problem carried on almost all winter but thankfully not the croup....wouldn’t give antibiotics because GP wanted her immune system to react unless things got really bad - they didn’t thankfully Good luck. Hope your specialist knows an answer.

Thank you Breathezee.

Hopefully ENT can help her, did you say an injection your granddaughter had? I have never heard of an injection before.

Yes, a steroid injection. I think it was quite an urgent situation because throat seemed to be closing and croup getting worse. She was 6 months at the time.

Oh dear the poor thing. I don’t think my daughter has been that bad, but she always needs some steriods.

It can be so distressing, for you as well as your daughter, to hear them barking away so uncomfortably. I do hope you get a improvement for your daughter soon. You’ll have to hope the cough appears during the consultation....hard to believe when it doesn’t! Good luck to you both. Let us all know the outcome.

Thank you

They are never sick when it’s time to see the consultant bouncing around always the way-I will do 😊

Thanks
