I have had asthma for a few years and it has been well controlled

Last Wed I had such a bad one I had to be ventilated and spent 2 days in intensive care . Can anyone advise if this is likely to happen again , sorry might sound like a stupid question

Hi sorry to here how poorly you’ve been! There’s no such thing as a stupid question if it’s worrying you!

Whilst I’ve never been intubated, I have been very close (I picked up 5 mins before the ‘deadline’ 😅😳). From what I understand, once it’s happened once, docs are a lot more weary of it happening again so there may be some correlation for it to be more likely to reoccur. However, if you know the trigger of the attack, then maybe you’ll be able to avoid a repeat performance (depending on the cause that is!).

Hopefully they’ll reassess your medication to get you back in control and to stop it spiralling so badly again! I’d advise to speak to you specialist/asthma nurse or to ring asthma uk as they’ll probably know more about likelihood of it reoccurring

Hope you’re starting to feel better now x

Hi Gsh100 hope your feeling a better I was put in a coma in 2016 with life threatening asthma for a week didn’t know I had asthma at the time best thing is to know your allergies if you have any am allergic to dust dogs and some cleaning products but am very careful now good luck x

Sorry to hear this!

I've been intubated three times as an adult and twice as a child. It now means that they are very careful so when I present to A+E they usually send me to HDU/ITU as a precaution.

It's not nice to feel like it could happen again but as the others have said just try to avoid your triggers and seek help as soon as you feel unwell.
