Anyone on Mepolizumab?

Hi Everyone. I'm due to start mepolizumab injections on Friday and I'm wondering if anyone out there can share their experiences of taking it. My asthma is very brittle and I have been unwell now for 14 years. During that time I've had nearly every possible drug to help but so far with no success. I'm really hoping this new treatment works for me this time as I feel at the end of my treatment options. I would really appreciate hearing people's thoughts and experiences of mepolizumab.

Hi Clanmacbeath

I was on Xolair for 4 years, it seemed to work well in the 1st 2 years, then I had a bout of pneumonia and things seemed to get worse, I was having lots of exacerbations, and having to take prednisolone for 5 to 14 days from 40mg up to 60mg and then weaning off. It seemed no sooner I was off preds, I was back on them again. I heard about Mepolizumab November 16 and I was told I would be put on it as Xolair was not helping me. I was quite bad in February 16, had 8 days in hospital, I was on IV abs & steroids and on 40mg pred for 3 weeks and weaned off. They stopped the Xolair in March 17 and I had my 1st Nucala (Mepolizumab) in May 17. I have been having the 1 injection (Xolair I had 4) every 4 weeks, I have had no adverse effects.

I have had 1 bad day since I started this, I started coughing when I woke up and my wife said I should go to my GP. I went for an 11.50 appointment was GP examined me and could hear a slight wheeze and prescribed ABs, I was explaining what had happened, started coughing and could not stop. My GP ended up calling an ambulance to take me to hospital, the paramedics nebulised me in the ambulance and by the time I got to A&E things had settled down my PF had risen to normal level and I was sent home about 6.30pm.

I had my inhalers (Cyclesonide & Formoterol) swapped to Fostair 200/6 October 16, that has helped get my PF back up, after a few weeks I have been getting 520+ 2 or 3 times a week rather than once or twice a month, where I was normally just getting 380 - 450.

Thank you TuckBox2. I'm so pleased to hear it's had a positive effect on your asthma and health after having such a rough time of it. I'm hoping it will work the same for me so that I can get back to some normality and start living again. Things have been really bad for the past few years and i was starting to feel a bit down with it all. So hearing that your doing well is good news. Thank you for responding.
