I was ill all last week with a chest infection. The week's worth of antibiotics end tomorrow. I have been on 40mg of steroids a day as well. Well the past couple of days, I can't do more than 5 minutes of work without having to rest. I ju

Don't know what happened there! Anyway, I finally decided to use my Ventolin 10 times with the spacer to see if it helps. A little, but limited. What do I do? Do I go to A&E or just hold out? My daughter has a show tonight. I am supposed to work tomorrow. I can't be dealing with this. 😢

Sorry to hear you are unwell.

Honestly you need to see how you feel? If you are still struggling after taking 10 puffs in 10 minutes and that usually would clear things up for you it might be worth seeking help somewhere.

Can you give 111 a call or if it's not too late ring your GP and try talk to them for advice?

Thanks. I rang the asthma UK helpline. I agreed to work from home tomorrow and try to ring my GP first thing. If worse comes to worse, I will ring 111 tonight.

Hi sorry to hear that you’re feeling so bad atm!

Take it easy and see how you go! If your ventolin isn’t working, and you’re feeling worse go in to a&e, don’t just struggle through it! 111 will most likely advise this if you ring them as all they can say is if your vent isnt helping, you need more treatment!

Hope you start to pick up soon, and 🤞 you’ll get through to see your GP tomorrow! Definitely a good idea to work from home tomorrow tho!

Think of you and I hope you got to enjoy your daughters show!

Missed the show unfortunately and I am sitting in A&E. Two nebulisers down and now on a drip. Still wheezing. Not fun. 😞

Thanks. I don't know why I don't seem to improve. 😞 Could be worse, someone with cardiac arrest next to me, poor guy.

😔 hope he’s ok, and that you start to pick up soon...

My last chest infection lingered for 2 months, with a month on 2-4 hourly nebs plus vent plus pred and 2 different antibiotics. Hospital wouldn’t admit me and when I went in to a&e at its start they gave me nebs and told me to manage at home as they couldn’t do anything for me... took about 6 weeks for me to go back, asthma completely uncontrolled and me at the end of my tether after not sleeping properly for 6 weeks (up to take nebs in the night)! I managed to organise some outpatient hydrocortisone treatment which helped but didn’t last after it stopped, and didn’t feel better until I got admitted at Brompton for a more intensive hydro course, which finally calmed it all down!

My advice from this learning experience is if you’re feeling bad go in and fight to be admitted if it doesn’t get better (I know how much we fight to stay out but sometimes a little time in is better than being out an struggling for much longer!)

Guessing you’re on mag and had a hydro shot by now... 🤞 they start to work soon. Keep breathing x

Yes, I think that's what he's given me. The for doctor was ready to discharge me, but then another doctor started doing all these things. I am confused whether I will go home or not. I feel bad because A&E is packed, but at the same time I feel no better. Now, we have this poor guy next to me and I feel a burden. I just wish my lungs would work.

Hope you are feeling better soon. Thanks for the advice. x

You are not a burden!!! And don’t feel bad about a&e being busy, you’re there because you genuinely need to be there, as you were unsafe to be at home!

If you’re not feeling better tell them and see if they’ll admit you overnight at least, tell them you don’t feel safe to go home if you don’t! Hopefully this new doc will manage you better (have you had an abg done today? Painful, but can show if you defo need to stay in!). How’s you PF doing? Any improvement yet (even if just a smidge 😉)?

Yes I’ve been fine since Christmas (minus a few wobbles due to snow!). In a way the infection I had in Oct (and it’s poor treatment) helped me as Brompton finally saw what I got like at normal/bad, rather than when I was at my best which is all they had ever seen before (had only ever seen them when I was ‘unusually’ well 🙄😒😅)! I’m now on a Xolair trial which is definitely helping I think - less attacks and better recovery ☺️

Let us know how you get on x

Thanks. I feel a slight loosening now. I think the magnesium has kicked in finally. Will see what the doctor says. x

Glad you got more help. It is hard with asthma because you can be completely well one day and crashing the next. Hopefully the new trial helps. x

They said I have to stay in tonight again. I am still wheezy. I had hoped something would work. Not sure why my lungs are so tight. 😞

😔. Hopefully regular nebs (and hydrocortisone if you’re on it) will help to calm it all down. At least they’re looking after you. Hope they find the right combination of treatment so you can start to feel better and leave ASAP x

Thanks. I did sleep a bit which is a bonus. I feel worse though and very sore. I know I will get better but I guess I was just surprised how ill I got so quickly! I did everything right but to no avail. Oh well, I suppose that's life. x
