Anyone had Azithromycing please?

Hi

After I've had a hearing test already had ACG my specialist will be trying me on Azithromycing.

Been prescribed as specialist thinks asthma is driven by infection, I suffer badly with tree & grass pollen.

Just wondering if anyone has been on it and how they coped with it.

Hi there, Azithromycin, is an anti-biotic in the Macrolide family. I take it 3 times a week all the time. It has been shown to have some anti inflammatory effects. And for some people with asthma it makes a big difference. I take it because I also have Bronchiectasis. If your consultant offers it to you it is worth giving it a shot. It does not work for everyone, but for me it has been great.

I just finished 5 day course for chest infection as amoxicillin never works but this is amazing. Cleared up so quickly and I had no side effects. I like to ask doctors for an emergency pack for when I know I need it. Doctors don't seem to give it out very freely though, I have a feeling as expensive compared to other antibiotics. I didn't know it could be taken continuously though.

Forgot to mention earlier, there’s a good book about Azithromycin and Asthma on Amazon called: A Cure For Asthma? (the Kindle Edition I purchased was reasonably priced, but for some reason, all the Hard Copies I saw seemed very expensive).

I've been on Azithromycin for over a year and it's made a big difference. A new consultant after I moved put me on it. It works by killing off ineffective neutrafils in blood....they fight infection but only live for 28 days. For some reason when older ones don't die off they reduce body's natural defenses. So the drug helps restore it.

At one to I was on doxycycline almost continuously. Don't be worried about being on Az long term as its not like other antibiotics where you get resistant. Hope this helps...try it! I've had one chest infection in a year. But I also live in less polluted area after moving 2 yrs ago.

I was on it continuously for a year and then when I had an infection . I now have moderate hearing loss and wear hearing aids. If you have had an hearing test at the start I can keep an eye on this

Thank you shellc, I've been told any ringing in my ears to stop them straight away. Did the tablets cause your hearing problems?
