Weird experience sleeping on the floor, Asthma 100 times worse

Hi all.

I suffer from a coughing kind of asthma, and using 1 spray morning and night of

Fostair 100micrograms/dose / 6micrograms/dose

usually means in a month I might need to use my blue

Salbutamol 100micrograms/dose

About 2 or 3 times.

I have 2 dogs. Both sleep in the bedroom, one on the floor, the other up against me in bed (usually on the covers, but if its cold he covers himself under them).

And this causes me zero problems. Normal mattress (vacuumed regularly) normal sheet and quilt, memory foam orthopedic pillow. Floor currently is chipboard (haven't got around to laying anything yet)

Had allergy tests, not allergic to dogs, but am allergic to dust mites.

The dog who sleeps on the floor, had an operation last week, meaning he cant climb the stairs. being the softies we are, we thought we would sleep downstairs with them both.

Our living room floor was replaced with thick chipboard a few years ago, and laminate flooring laid on top. This is swept & vacuumed a daily and more often than not,. also washed daily.

The furniture is real leather (shiny not suede) and is also vacuumed daily (mainly because my dogs play on the beach and the sofa ends up being covered in sand)

My living room should in theory have less dust mites than my bedroom.

My wife slept in the sofa, I slept on the floor, with the quilt from our bed wrapped around me.

With the above in mind, why is it after one night I found myself coughing a lot more in the day and having to use my blue inhaler 3 times, and after last night, I woke up with what I can only describe as a dry hard to breath feeling in my throat, and coughing none stop?

Obviously tonight I will sleep upstairs.

If the living room had a carpet or cloth furniture I could understand, but unlike the bedroom , the living room is vacuumed and usually washed daily.

This happened about two years ago when he had a previous op, and I put it down to the only thing I could think of which was our chimney, we have a wood burner (that hasn't been used for about 10 years) , but I've had the chimney swept since then and again we never use it.

The only other differences from the living room and the bedroom are a fish tank (thats kept in pristine condition) , and a storage heater (that was turned off yesterday but was on the day before).

The bedroom has a dog quilt for my big dog who sleeps on the floor and tends to only get vacuumed weekly.

As I type this, my entire throat feels dry, when I breath, it kind of feels like the air tastes dirty because of my throat, and my kips are sort of tingling.

OK the solution is simple, I will not sleep downstairs anymore.

I just don't understand why, when from how clean I keep the living room compared to the bedroom, if anything the bedroom should be causing me the problems?

Thoughts?

Many thanks

Phil

Hi I would imagine this is more to do with lying flatter than usual as I know it can be hard to breathe without extra support. Don't forget that too no matter how clean a floor is it still gets walked on a lot more than furniture so it's bound to be dirtier. x

Hmm. That’s odd - the tingling lips, makes me think of allergies. You say you clean the floor downstairs everyday? Maybe it’s the cleaner? And you’ve not reacted before because you’re not normally lying on it for hours.

I think that laminate floors attract dust in the same way that static does. I could be wrong, of course, but they attract it more than, say, vinyl. Of course you keep it very clean, but everything settles at night, so that might be it. Just meandering thoughts.
