Anyone else affected by Skunk smells?

A skunk just sprayed under our house and the smell has sent me into a place where I am using my puffers and nebulizer far more than I ever did just to breathe. I have boiled vinegar and used febreeze. It's now minus 21 Celsius with the wind chill that's minus 40. Two days ago it was plus 4., so I can't have windows and doors open for long enough to really air out the house. The cold hair affects my breathing too. weird winter temps here evven the animals don't know they are still supposed to be still hibernating. Anybody else been affected by skunk smells this badly?

I can relate to the cold somewhat, as here in the UK we are having a cold snap, and I do find it makes me quite wheezy. I do try wearing a cotton scarf over my mouth, but sometimes I get caught out.

But I’ve never seen a real skunk, so fortunately have no idea of the smell of their famous scent - but I’m sure it’s very unpleasant. And I guess once it’s there you just have to wait for the scent to disappear. A whole new problem I’m lucky to never have come across!

You don't have skunks in the UK? That's fascinating. We never had them here on PEI until the '60 when some idiot brought some across on the ferry for some damn plan that didn't work so he let the 4 go free. Now there are too many to count. Damn Fool!!! Do you have racoons or possums or other nasty varmints like that?

No we don't have any of these creatures nonething like that. In the UK we have hedgehogs, badgers, foxes (if your dog rolls in their poo dogs love to do that then they really stink! ) I hope you get rid of the stink soon.

yeah we have all those too, but this skunk.. sometimes I wonder about the sense of humor the man upstairs has. Anyway I will buy some more vinegar later this morning cause that does seem to help get rid of it. Nice chatting with you.. And learning about the UK. Where do you live? I had a grandmother from Wales and a grandmother from Scotland, but we talked mostly about old recipes and patterns and old furniture not rodents and vermin. You have been quite enlightening.

Go to one of the pet skunk FB groups , lots of advice on neutralising spray from them !

I think peroxide and washing up liquid are recommended , if I remember .

Skunk spray smells like burning rubber , garlic and sulphur mixed - it is an irritant .

I sure it would be any strong pungent smell, sometimes paint or perfume stops me in my tracks, but I guess a skunk is a bit more long lasting.

You are so lucky to have wild skunks in USA !

I have a pet skunk in the house who is absolutely adorable -

She has never sprayed , so can't comment on that , but she is no problem to my asthma .

I got sprayed thru our window overnight and immediately started gagging and now have had asthma for 2 days. How long will this last? Ugh.
