Anybody else in this situation?

Hi first post here, I’ve been suffering with asthma the last 2 years with 5 large attacks in this period. So far I’ve been under hospital care for the last 18 months with me now taking what feels like an army of inhalers/tablets a day (symbicort, bricanyl, spiriva, Alcon and montelukast). The consultant team at the hospital now want to put me forward for Mepolizumab injection as the esoniphil (sorry if that’s spelt wrong) is apparently high during my attacks and routine blood tests.

Has anybody had any luck getting on to this injection? Do you have any side effects from it?

Also how are people coping with going from being active to when it’s bad struggling to get round the house?

hi Punkgirl, I've no experience of injection which you mention. I have other health issues as well as asthma though which confine me to house many days and worse on some. I guess that like all chronic/ long term illness it takes a lot of adapting to even if only for a while.

What helps? Not doing things which excerbate my symptoms. Looking at what I CAN still do and trying not to concentrate on what I can't do. Recognising there is a grief process involved in dealing with the life I had and what I now have to learn to adjust to. Knowing that I can still manage to live a life which is good, fulfilled and useful even if it is different to other people's. Taking care of myself is important and talking to the people close to me.

Simple things like not having to go up and down stairs can help which involves thinking and planning ahead. Making sure you have what you need close by during the day.

Hope you feel better soon.

I have the Mepo and it’s been amazing! You can search posts to see what others think but it’s made a huge difference to me.
