8 injections down and feeling great! Hoping to be off the pred(1mg/day) in a fortnight but have had to reduce slowly to ensure I’m able to make my own cortisone.

Would be interested to see how others have done on this new treatment and a very Happy and healthy New year all x

So pleased fir you , I had 5 in total but was withdrawn from it because of side affects, I felt my head was in a fog the whole time plus my 02 used to drop from nowhere, due to start the next one soon

That’s a shame but really hope you have more success with the next treatment-I can’t believe that after most of my adult life I at last have a

treatment that I can say, tentatively, works.... apart from the hated prednisolone!

Have u not had any side affects ? I have bronchiectasis as well and on oxygen too so wasn’t looking for miracles , although I think the last one I had had started to give me improvements but they had already made up their minds to withdraw it

I too have bronchiectasis, but no side effects with the Mepo injections although I don’t use oxygen.

I have to have the treatment monthly and stay behind afterwards to see that I don’t have a reaction but the lovely clinic support workers make tea and toast so it’s not too bad.

Hi after a recent stay in hospital with pneumonia I met a fellow Wheezebag who has had success with the injections which inspired me to do a post enquiring if anyone else has used them as I didn't know they existed. Did your GP prescribe them or a specialist? As I presume funding is an issue as I think they are costly. I'm all for preventative and am going to mention it to my GP on Monday. What does the procedure involve? Does it take effect immediately and how long does it last? Sorry for all the questions but I am keen to give it a go 😁

Also, if it works it’s a monthly treatment for as long as it works- hopefully years!

Hi, glad you’re out of hospital and hopefully better. For Mepo, as I understand though there are probably people far more qualified to say, you have to have eosinophilic, non allergic asthma with more than 4(?) courses of prednisolone a year. This is in addition to the usual asthma treatment as is an add on treatment.

It had to be prescribed by an asthma consultant then approved by the nhs high cost treatment programme. It has meant I can carry on working and improved my quality of life no

end.

There are other “mab” treatments eg xolair for slightly different sorts of asthma.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that, I don't have an asthma consultant just respiratory nurse as I haven't suffered much until this last 2 years but that may change. I have had more than 4 pred over the last 12 months, in fact I've spent more time on than off through the winter months 😁. I can only ask for either of the treatments you mention and see what they say. Much appreciated ☺
