Does Qvar heal your lungs?

My asthma Doctor always refers to steroid inhalers...that it heals the lungs, I quest from constant inflammation. What do you all think?

It doesn't heal, no. This medicine works over time to help prevent asthma symptoms by reducing sensitivity, swelling and inflammation in the airways. However, if you come into contact with one of your 'triggers' e.g. if you are allergic to dogs and one jumps on you and licks you, you are still likely to feel worse. You need to take the steroid inhaler regularly for it to work - you can't just take it like aspirin if you have a headache.

I think I know what your asthma doctor is trying to convey but I wouldn't say they heal the lungs....they are as someone said a steroid that reduces inflammation which in turn reduces mucus and constriction (having less/none is a good thing as it makes it easier to breathe)... the inflammation *can* cause long term lung damage from scarring

which I think is what your doctor might be refering to when he suggested they heal the lungs
