Asthma Flare Up

I have been on/off prednisolone for 3 weeks. Was taking to hospital Sunday night, does anyone else feel great on steroids, then after few days off them. Breathing gets worse again, even on them just know. I’m knackered walking to the local shops.

I’m on a reducing dose. Started 8 for 5 days. Then 4 for 5, 2 for 5 then 1 For remainder. It’s really getting me down now. Never been like this for so long.

Hopefully it’ll settle down soon. I have chostochrinditis caused by pyrerx dishes falling on my chest. Then about a month later the inflammation was starting to bother my asthma.

The problem is. This is my 3rd lot of steroids in a month. Come if then and go back to being breathless again.

I found small dose 10mgm for 3-5 days helped me the most. It is not a cure and docs seem to prescribe very large doses that do more harm and the cycle continues..basically takes a toll on the bodyTge only thing helping me is Buteyko Still get flare ups but don’t need prednisone.I did take a low dose of pulmicort and ventolin when I need it

What’s buteyko. Or am I reading it wrong.

Do look up Buteyko Clinic. It is a technique that teaches relaxation and shallow breathing that has helped many asthmatics . I like Patrick McKeown's CD's and writings. Look him up.

I hate prednisolone.... it eventually works but gives me stomach pain and worse than that is he insomnia. MY chest ends up feeling better but I'm so knackered at the end of it

I know what you mean. I’m up most of the night just now. Just want to cry. That’s how I’m feeling just now.

Isn't it terrifying how powerful the body is with all that coughing? Some chest infections I've had, I've honestly felt someone has been pounding my ribs and chest all day and night.

I hope you get better soon ChestCough1.

Sympathies. I was in A&E on Sunday too (17th) after starting another sore throat and cold 24 hours before (Saturday am) and that was after just 1 week without a cold. Nebs, more steroids and antibiotics. My entire December has had steroids and antibi.

Went to GP on Friday (was already booked as a review from the earlier chest infection). Nurse was now at the end of what she could do and immediately referred me to Duty Doc who was good. He was not happy with 3 A&E visits this year, multiple emergency GP visits throughout the year, 5 chest infections and probably a 3rd of the year on steroids and antibi. Am now referred to Consultant.

I do get better on steroids - but the risk is as I come off them it all goes pear shaped again. Hence why Duty Doc has me on steroids over Christmas still (this is the fourth course in December!).

And I too can barely walk anywhere without either crawling along slowly or ending up severely out of breath. I'm 42 and feel like I'm 90! December 2016 I was able to get up 2 and a half flights of stairs with no problems at all (though that took 18 months to get to after a 2015 chest infection that lasted months).

Hang in there. I know its horrid and hard. Hope you get better soon and if you are getting more and more problems - insist on being seen by a specialist.

As its Christmas, please just rest and take it easy. If you have *any* difficulties controlling the asthma please get to hospital. Don't wait.

Hugs and have a Merry Christmas and crossing fingers for better health in 2018 for us all.

Thanks. Hopefully it will all iron itself out soon. I just originally thought I was just tired and run down at the beginning. Can’t risk going back to work until I’m fully recovered. Went back on the Saturday. In hospital in the Sunday. Xx

Hi all, I am 29 & asthmatic too, it's been rough living & coping with asthma but one thing I want to encourage us all with is that: when all the soothing words or encouragement from the most cherished people in your life (those on asthma forum), GP, specialists, doctors, nurses etc is not enough to soothe the pain you feel, it is only GOD that can help strenghten, empower & uphold you. Sincerely, we all have to decide to have all the faith we can to believe that come what may, asthma or no asthma, we would live to see many more years to come in the land of the living; we have to declare & make confessions daily that we are healthy, we are strong, we are energized, we are strenghtened, we are endued with power from on high, we walk & we do not faint. I know that all these are the last things that would come to our minds, infact, these are the last things anyone else would think of posting here, the last thing anyone here wants to here is preaching when life is at stake but I tell you, it is something we really need & we cannot afford to do without.

Like I said before, I am 29 & I have severe asthma which normally leads to excerbations. I normally have recurrent chest infections with have to be treated with antibiotics. When I do have a severe chest tightness, am normally given aminophylline & hydrocortisone IV, sometimes the doctor decides to do tests so as to know if I have any infection that needs to be treated with antibiotics. My doctor treats me with branded medications & high classed antibiotics, but when she discovered I was still having recurrent chest infections, breathing issues, she told me that she could no longer help me anymore that she hopes my body isn't being resistant to antibiotics (that antibiotics are not working for my body anymore since it has taken too much) & that I need to see a specialist (a respirologist). Right now, she doesn't attend to matters that relate to my health since she has told me to see a specialist (I realized that her action is so because she cares about me as am close to her & each time she sees me in pains, she is gets pained herself, as all she wants for me is to be healthy & happy - the thought of me dying or seeing me almost passing out or dying is something she can't stand). I encouraged us on working on our faith because since August this year till now, I haven't used the inhaler, nebulizer as I I realized they weren't working for me any longer so I decided to try another means which is holding on to GOD, trusting him to help me. I must say that it hasn't been easy but GOD as been my source of strength in my weakness. Am sure you all know that not getting a relieve from the inhaler, nebulizer, I asthma meds isn't something that is that easy to do, not even going out without an inhaler on hand is like someone deciding to drive a car without brakes (you & I know it will be disastrous). I have a friend who also had issues like am having, always having to be on admission in a&e on oxygen, inhaler or medications not helping anymore, unfortunately, he died of an asthma attack & am still having a tough time trying to forget about him. This is the reason I decided to go on what I call a FAITH JOURNEY or should I simply say, MY FAITH JOURNEY. Am very sorry if I offended anyone with my post, it's just that I couldn't help but encourage someone else with the encouragement I get from GOD knowing fully well that we are all struggling with the same thing but in different degrees. Deeply, I I am sorry, I please do forgive me all.
