Eosinophilc asthma questions

Having been diagnosed with the above it has raised a few questions- I was wondering if somebody on here may be able to help?

Firstly does the raised eosinophils mean that there is something sinister going on? My IgE is raised (just over 500) but it is not massively high.

Secondly is there the possibility that having this means there is a likelihood that is could change into some other condition?

Any answers appreciated.

I don't think it can develop but high blood eosinophils can be caused by various conditions - from parasitic infections to eosinophilic lung infiltrations ( usually higher than 1.5)

Did you have CT or bronchoscopy ?

CT and x rays on my lungs were clear.

Hi Brenviking

I ran your query past our nurse team and Mickey one of the nurse specialists says that high eosinophils and high IGE levels are common in asthma.

IGE levels indicate allergic asthma and eosinophils are the inflammatory marker that a lot of people with asthma have.

It is always best to keep IGE and eosinophils down as much as possible as asthma that isn’t well controlled (symptom free) is more lightly to cause long term problems with your lungs.

Hope that helps,

Dita
