Onset of chronic asthma in fifties

Hi my name is Jacky from London. I have always had asthma and hay fever and excema, its also in my family. These last three years it became chronic and I was retired on I'll health as a mental health social worker. I was lucky that my lovely sourced the professor of respiratory at a major London hospital who I see privately. However the NHS consultant was equally lovely and very knowledgeable. I am on a regime of meds. Inhalers and sprays which has stabilized things but it remains chronic. I find it very hard I can't do the things I did especially a lot of long haul travel.

Hi Jakguineapig welcome to our group. To start with it is very hard to adjust but the way I did it was to think of me as being the new me . I used to live a very active life dashing about here there and everywhere, now I move slower I have time , I have time to do craft work , read books, potter in the garden wonder about shops just enjoy my new life. Some people never have the chance to be two different people I have. Sending you gentle supportive hugs , be kind to yourself 😘

Welcome Jack, you are not really alone in the health storm. People have one challenge or the other, so do not be angry with yourself or family. Be yourself, try to follow instructions. Inhaling drugs have techniques to be effective. Learn it well and do the right. Never try to do all chores. A little at a time. Rest well. Praise God too.

I'm 57. Duoresp spiromax inhaler works very well for me.

Look up salt inhalers, salt therapy, salt lights.

I have a salt inhaler & it fends of allergies. Once a day for about 15 mins. Just breath in through the mouth & out through the nose.

It is an accepted form of treatment in Russia. In this country they don't cus I reckon the steroid salesman wouldn't get his massive commision!

I'm self employed & living a bit hand to mouth else I would have a couple of those salt lights too. Hopefully soon :)

Best of luck.

Many thanks. My godson has actually just come back from russia and his mum put him in the salt caves a lot out there for his asthma.

Great. I was in Burton on trent hospital for 4 days in June last year. I had a blood test which showed a bad allergic reaction but I don't know what too! Was tested for dogs & cats & dust but not them. Sandy the cat is on my lap now as I type :) So I read up on salt therapy & got a salt inhaler & been fine since. Just one go in the morning & evening with the spiromax inhaler.
