Admitted again...πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„

Back in again after 4 hours in resus ... chest infection - big surprise there! Back to back nebs x4 (so far...), hydrocortisone, antibiotics, mag sulphate, saline drip (for high heart rate/blood pressure from nebs) and still wheezy. Sats at 92 with no o2 so on that too. PF at 50% just (was at 30% 😳) Chest X-ray clear, 3 sets of bloods done - infection, low theophylline levels πŸ™„. 1st abg showed a problem, 2nd slight improvement so waiting for my third one to decide whether I go itu or not. Not impressed to be back 3 days after last release and whilst on 40mg pred!

Hoping that this is the stay that solves the issue! 🀞

  • Oh no just seen your post. Not good. Hope they can get you more stable and avoid ITU. Let us know how your doing x

  • On to 2hrly nebs. PF dropping slowly. Still waiting on 3rd abg (was meant to be at 10.30). Guess little/no sleep tonight again...

  • I'm with you there. I was on 30min Nebs when I came in and I can have them that close if needed. Can't get my PF much about 50% in the last 3 days. Dr reluctant to give theophylline or IV steroids!! Just trying to treat with Nebs. It's not working!!!! X

  • Mine are uming and ahing over aminophylline. Just had 2nd type antibiotic and the dreaded fragmin injection πŸ€•

  • Nice. I have a cracking bruise from ABG!!! X

  • They bruise up so well! Massive bruise on left small one on right (couldn't find left on 2nd attempt).Have a cannula on left wrist now too (and right elbow). Hopefully next abg on right!!! Looking forward to my fragmin bruise too!!!

  • Yeah nice. I have cannula on my left right in the wrong place. Honestly have so many all the time must look like some form of drug addict. X

  • Know what you mean... so many track marks!

PF back up to 50% post neb... yay! Finally been able to eat too (nought since 8/9 this morning as couldn't breathe/ wasn't hungry!)

Still waiting on my 10.30 abg (to decide itu or not - guessing not but just had to ask if it was happening cause don't want to try and sleep only to be woken for it!!!). Hope you get some sleep xxx

  • Glad you've pulled up past 50%. I'm getting looks from nurses asking for Nebs less than 2hrs apart. They are a funny bunch in here this time. Did you get ABG done? ITU? Where have you ended up? No sleep for me and don't think there will be. Lack of ability to breath, constant cough and senile old women shouting!!!!! Hope your ok x

  • I on urgent acute medical unit ATM (uamu/amu). Similarly, I have one lady eating crisps and calling for a nurse normally just to moan and complain, and one swinging between nausea and pain. Everytime I almost get to sleep I set off an alarm, and they increase o2. Waiting for next neb - seems to last an hour before I get tight and sats drop. Currently at level 5 oxygen and sats 94-96 depending what I'm doing.

  • Ah least your not on ITU. I'm on the specialist respiratory unit. O2 intermittently as sats drop especially over night. Less this evening as I haven't slept at all and as soon as I sleep is when mine go usually. Still Nebs every hour or so but they have left me a supply and a record sheet for peak flows so don't have to bother them as much. Try and get some rest. X

  • That's my thinking - so far in my life I have avoided itu and I want to keep it that way! Assuming I'll be back on the resp ward tomorrow (only left it on Thursday πŸ™„). At least their leaving you alone a bit more. My last neb finished at 4.15 - managed a nap whilst I felt good - just woken up at 92/93% sats (o2 still on 5) but they've switched off alarm so haven't noticed *yet*. Next neb in an hr. haven't PF since 2ish as they're not asking but don't feel too bad so that's something! Hope you get some sleep also xxx

  • Thank you. Sounds as though your a little more stable than when you went in which is good. I have a neb on now. PF keep dropping to 230 (normally 550) just won't stay up or go beyond 270. Drs haven't been great and my consultant isn't on until Tuesday! The joys of having been stuck here over a bank holiday. X

  • Feeling better than when I walked in to a&e definitely! Had silent chest PF 200(just and being generous)/630, no response to nebs, just wanted to sleep but didn't feel safe. I hadn't eaten since the morning and barely drunk. Didn't help that my landlord sent a text on Friday saying I needed to be out of my room by Tuesday. Spent the last 2 days (ill and just out of hosp) finding a place to live and packing/unpacking as no other choice!

PF currently sitting at 310/630 so basically 50%. Luckily my docs and nurses nurses are really good - by chance have a resp doc in charge of amu tonight and the nurses all know me anyway (as does the guy who decides itu or no).

Trying and get some sleep and I hope you have a better day with the staff today! Xxx

  • That's good your feeling a little better. All sounds very similar to my experience on Friday night with how I was feeling. I just wish mine would start shifting up now as right now I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel for home and I'm due to go back to work Monday!!! Eeekkkk. We shall see. You get some rest too and let me know how your doing. Xxx

  • You too xxx

  • I hope you start to feel better soon.

  • Thanks. Finally had abg - came back good so no itu πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—. Off o2 for 1hr post neb sats dropped to 91 πŸ™„ back on it again (and another neb). Potassium saline drip too cause of all the nebs. Not too bad otherwise tho 😁 x

  • Sorry if this is a silly question, but are they sure it's an infection if your X-ray is clear? Could they maybe check your FENO to make sure they are treating you correctly?

Hope you start to feel better soon.

  • Thanks πŸ™‚. Regarding infection elevated wbc after being released 2-3 days prior from a ward with a lot of chest infections. I think it started off viral (on Thursday) but sat in my chest and developed to bacterial. Mild fever (tho high for me as naturally low body temp), coughing up thick, disgusting yellow gunk 🀒 and has also collected into a sinus issue too (a different type of gunk from there... 🀧). They are treating as a hospital acquired infection, and antibiotics so far have helped as less 'cold caused' wheeze in chest. Plus X-ray whilst clear of anything obvious was also unclear as couldn't see bottom of lungs due to my shallow breathing and inability to deep breathand hold... never done FENO tho so maybe something to ask about if it doesn't resolve as it should! X

  • Hope you're on the mend soon luv. Lx

  • Thank you 😊 xxx

  • Blimey. Well, hopefully a little more stable now after all the meds. Let's hope you get some rest in between the nebs and meds. Hospital on a bank holiday is not fun. The humidity is high this morning, though reducing later, which should make it slightly easier to breathe.

  • Yes definitely not what I had planned! Caught a few catnaps in the night hoping for a bit longer today. Feeling better than when I walked in so that's something at least!

  • You have had a time of it. Moving as well, all that dust in the air. Just not what you wanted.

  • True dat!

  • Oh my goodness, you are in the wars. I truly hope you feel better soon. Take care.

  • Thanks. Amu looking to release me today with antibiotics. Been accused of not taking my meds too. Currently on my last neb (after them 2hrly) then release (?) this afternoon. Will see how my sats are doing before I agree to go esp as been on o2 all night as sats kept dropping <92/93%.

  • Wow they might let you out?? Be careful if they do with your sats still down. Xx

  • No asthma nurse came round and set them straight! Sats currently at 94-96 doing nothing (drop if walk/talk etc), PF just over 50%. Plus she wasn't impressed with me being released <18hrs after almost being sent to itu. Love the nursing staff at my hospital! Have more faith/trust in them than I do the docs!

  • That's good. I did wonder. Glad they are keeping you. I know it's a pain but your in the right place. Keep having to tell myself the same thing. X

  • I know. I keep swinging between wanting to go home and knowing I probs shouldn't. Also had the issue of antibiotics causing me to 'orally reject' everything I had taken this morning so don't know how much of my meds actually got absorbed! πŸ€’πŸ˜©πŸ€”. My nurses are in the ball tho so that's something ☺️

  • That's good they are on the ball. I'm waiting to hear if I'm to go to HDU for amanophyllin. X

  • If you do I'll keep my fingers crossed that it'll work well for you! 🀞🏻 xxx

  • Did you get the aminophylline? X

  • So the amu doc tried to send me home again (even tho the ward nurses said definitely not today cause I was so wheezy pre nebs!). Just 'need to hit PF 450/630 and I can go' πŸ™„. I hit 220 (at worst) last night and felt awful, highest I've hit since Sunday is 370... she acts like I'm just looking for attention cause I said I didn't want to go home if it meant just coming back in again in a few days. Begrudgingly being transferred to resp ward. Really dislike this particular doc 😠. Luckily the nurses have my back ☺️. Apparently she always sends patients home before they should be πŸ˜’.

  • Oh dear. Sorry your having to fight your corner when you're not feeling well. I am in for at least another night probably more. The asthma nurse told me there is no way I'm going anywhere with a peak flow like mine! The dr agrees too. Currently dropping to 220 before neb and 270 after (550 is my best). Just can't pull it up. Hope your feeling better soon. Roll on night 5 of no sleep. X

  • I keep being told they don't want to admit me cause I'll just get another hospital acquired bug etc, plus I'm not that bad according to the doc (not to the nurses tho! Head nurse on ward said to say she's says no if they tried to make me leave). Already have a hosp bug but isn't that what siderooms are for? Sorry to hear you're still bouncing πŸ˜” Sounds like you have a supportive team that agrees with each other at least! Just seen the AN I saw on my last release she's not impressed that I got sent home 'I told them not to send you home!' (My consultant sent me home at 370/630 and sore threat at the time!) I currently seem to be ok-ish during the day (350ish/630) but drop at night (220-250) and sats drop too (89-92% most the night. Had to request 4 nebs last night as they had been stopped. When I can sleep through I'll be happy to go home but not til then!
