Can't Breath after Flu!

I'm 41 had Asthma all my life, just got over the flu now I'm having breathing difficulties right after my first cough, if I stay lying down I'm okay but once I start coughing mucus up I feel really restricted in my upper chest, I have warm lemon water just to break up and expel some of the phelm and takes hours to get relief, I'm normally at the gym exercising and normally healthy now I'm back to heavy doses of steroids which is okay but I feel so unhappy, my life is on pause until I get better, feel hungry but feel scared to eat just in case it Flair's up.

Hope so one can help, don't won't to go to the hospital because it makes me worse i get anxiety last time but I will if its critical.

Thanks David

If you haven't already gone back to your doctor/asthma nurse, then do so. The steroids may not be helping or inhalers may not be working. You may need antibotic cover. If you can get a sterile pot (chemists should have them) provide a sample of the mucus if you can.

If you are really struggling with breathing and speaking is impossible - you need to go to hospital. Call the Asthma UK line. The nurses are great there and they can advise you further.

I know how you feel. I had 5 and a half months of hell this year after a chest infection in January. I'm 42 and felt like I was 90 as I could barely walk without getting out of breath, I sounded permanently gravelly and I had to concentrate on every single breath. Fostair has been my saviour - though only been on it 2 and a half months and am worried about whether it will cope when winter hits.

Thanks for the reply, I finished a course of anti-botics today but I think its more viral infection.

I feel okay but I have a runny nose which is still producing mucus, my breathing and talking is fine but if I'm doing shopping or any stairs my chest gets tighter, puff on my ventolin. I can't be around people because it produces stress or tension, I have to isolate myself because no one understands what you go through but if I get the bad signs its off to the ER which I hate because I do a better job with taking care of myself.

I will look up fostair as an option to this, thanks for the help and take care.
