Hi sarahjane12 ,

Sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis.

There's some information about flu jabs and possible side effects on our site: bit.ly/2toss57

If you have any further questions, do speak to your GP or give us a call to speak to our team of expert asthma nurses on 0300 222 5800 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Hope that helps,

Dita

I get the flu jab. Just ask your GP surgery. They usually run clinics in September/October. Our GP surgery will give you one if you have a steroid inhaler. If you don't need a steroid inhaler, you don't need the jab, in their view.

As for after effects, I always get sore and flu-ey afterwards, but it only lasts a couple of days. The problem for me is that my birthday is at the beginning of October and the past few years I've had my jab within a day of my birthday if not the day it self. Not fun! :-P

Oh and I forgot, I did have the pneumonia jab last year. I think it lasts for 10 years. x

Hi I have flu jab every year. I try to drink lots of water and I don't usually plan to do much the next day. I think the jab varies every year, last years one I hardly reacted to, usually I just get a bit of a hot arm and I feel a bit tired and headachey for a couple of days. I think it is totally worth it, having flu really upsets my asthma.

Good luck xxx

Thanks Emily-G

Lilaclil, my asthma is moderate and very well controlled but my local practice will actually write to remind me I should have the flu jab if I don't get it done voluntarily. I get the feeling they are very well aware that even someone with very well controlled moderate asthma can have a severe exacerbation if an infection goes out of control. I've also had the pneumonia jab, but that was when it was first made available to asthmatics and I got it because I did have pneumonia history.

My asthma nurse recommended I have flu jab a few years ago. I was a bit hesitant at first as I had known people who always developed a cold after having it. However I have been having it a few years now and don't get any symptoms at all. I think it is worth having as when I did have flu I was really ill.
