Hello everyone here. Im Ruby 17 years old from phil. I'm new in this forum. I just want some opinion, help here. So let me start, I was confined in the hospital last month because i can't breath and i have a cough and its really frustrating. So the first time happen this to me. I dont mind it and dont care but the 2nd time happen this to me i was care and that was the time i was confined, because i can't even speak because i was breathless. I can't really breath on that time so i am really worried. So i was diagnosed that i have an asthma on that time. Everytime i have a cold and cough in the next day i can't breath so that was my asthma attacking. So how can i get rid of my asthma attack? When i went to hospital the doctor just gave me a prescription of medicine. He doesnt say anything that i will need to do. So i hope people will gonna help me in this forum. Thankyou. Lovelots. 😽

Hi Ruby, so sorry to hear you've been unwell.

Are you in the USA or U.K. It makes a bit of difference to advice because of the health systems.

In the U.K., you should have been referred back to your GP, or to a respiratory consultant who can work out a long term plan with you.

In the US it will depend on your insurance coverage, but as you are only 17 you should be covered. And you should go to your PCP who should refer you to consultant allergy/ Pulmonologist. There are a variety of drugs available to treat Asthma, but the prices of some inhalers in the states have recently gone up in price hugely. So ask your doctor for generics. Some of these are very good and a lot cheaper than named brands.

Managing Asthma well is about being self aware, and knowing what to do when. The Asthma U.K. Helpline is brilliant for advice. But is only available in the U.K.

Asthma is a scary condition to have. As mentioned in the previous response it's all about managing it. A good gp, or respiratory consultant will prescribe medications to control your asthma, but unfortunately you will get exacerbations of your condition if for example you contract a viral infection! When that happens you will be prescribed more medications during that period like steroids and antibiotics. Maintain your preventative meds as per your prescription and seek prompt medical attention during 'flare' ups. Good luck

Im really sorry. I lived in philippines right now and i am a pilipina but i lived in the us before. Anyway thankyou so much for a very great advice. ☺
