Hi. I check my peak flow every morning and evening. If my asthma is under control it will be about the same every time. If it goes out of control it can be different every time.

Unless you are keeping a record of your PF for a definite reason, you don't need to check it regularly; if you do it too often it can turn into an obsession! PF is only one of a number of things your GP/Asthma Nurse/consultant need to check if you are not well. If you feel you are not as well as you were, keeping a record can be helpful, but if you feel ok in yourself, you can let it be for a while.

Agree 100%! It all depends how you feel. If the asthma feels under control, then I wouldn't worry about PF variations, so no point in measuring. However, if you're not feeling so good, then a lower PF might indicate a need to improve control. Presumably an asthma nurse/doctor can advise what to do in that case, possibly by modifying your existing medication.

Every morning when I get up and every night before I sleep. Would check.it more often if I had shortness of breath.

I only use my PF as a benchmark? My issue is I have Restrictive Lung Dieases too, which will give on average a 10% higher reading but my lungs are compleatly empty?

I would suggest that you check twice a day for a week work on the average and then only use it when you feel tight or unwell to see if it has dropped and you can get a feel of when you need to see doctor or open rescue pack if your GP issues them?

I do my peak flow at least once a day. When I get up around 6:30 am and then around 5 pm. Asthma uk nurse told me that your peak flow at 5 pm will be your best one. The one in the morning will be the worse one. Here is the link to calculate your peak flow for age, sex and height peakflow.com/top_nav/normal... Mine is 420 but I can blow 480 even 500.

This is when my asthma is under control. On my asthma plan it says if my peak flow drops below 300 then I need to go the doctor.

asthma.org.uk/advice/manage... This is the template I use for my asthma. My asthma nurse is very happy for me to use this. I carry a copy with me whether every I go with my Ventolin.

Asthma care is not just about peak flow but also other symptoms see asthma plan. This is the good standard of care. Hope this helps.

Hi, I try to do mine every morning before is take any asthma meds, also sometimes at night. I check it more often if I am having a tricky asthma time.

Mine is usually low in the morning and comes up after a all my meds.
