Laryngitis, costochondritis and chest infections.

Has anyone else experienced a higher than normal amount of laryngitis and nflammation of the cartilage that joins your ribs to your breastbone (costochondritis).

Every winter when the colds and flu go around, I get laryngitis, lose my voice and do everything to prevent a chest infection. This year, a new guy is in town called costochondritis. Don't get me wrong, I welcome a winter without a chest infection, the type to get you in for a chest x-ray and antibiotics with bed rest but this ones new on me and very painful.

Does anyone else get bouts of this and do you know more about it or it's connection to your asthma?

I have been getting bouts of costoch on and off for nearly a year and I agree - VERY painful. I haven't linked it to asthma or bugs. I think my trigger is lifting stuff that I shouldn't, or with this current bout, hauling myself out of the bath (dammit). Any lifting, bending or stretching brings forth a loud 'Ow', as does turning over in bed. Ibugel massaged over the chest area above it helps, other than that wait for it to B off. A chest x-ray confirmed all ok - a relief as I was convinced my heart was hurting.... My GP knew what it was and confirmed it by pressing my chest. No other treatment apart from the Ibugel suggested. Have you been given anything to chase this unwelcome new guy out of town?

Hi

Sorry for late reply. I found antibiotics chased it off in the end. You're right though, the lifting and shifting is an agravator isn't it.
