FESS Surgery

Back to the ENT specialist tomorrow - I am convinced my sinuses are causing my asthma. It looks like FESS is the only option left now.

Has anybody had it done on the NHS? How long did you have to wait?

Anybody had it done privately? What did it cost?

Hi Brenviking,

Sorry to hear you are having sinus problems - I had FESS done about 2 and half years ago, it took about 4 months on the NHS.

I hope you get your appointment very soon, wishing you well :-)

Hello.

I have been offered FESS and accepted. The op will be within the next 4-6 weeks. My CT scan showed various obstructions. The doctor pointed out that it may not help my asthma but I 'm certain prodigious quantities of filthy mucus going down my bronchial passages will not be helping.

Hello

It hasn't helped my asthma but it also hasn't made it worse - the best thing is I can use my nose as a breathing tool now :-) I would also say that it doesn't stop post nasal drip in call cases either.

May I ask what you are taking for your sinuses and asthma?

Wishing you the very best

I Have had the full hit of inhalers - incruse was the last but they all have minimal effect which is to be expected with so much rubbish going down my bronchial passages. Prednisolone gives the best results ( I can even do exercise) but for obvious reasons it is not a long term proposition.

Have you anything else other than asthma?

I have been on pred for 2.5 years now plus a mixture of other meds for other lung conditions.

I had avamys and flixonase- they had minimal effect. Two years ago I was running and kickboxing. Not now. I have an IGE of 527 but doctors do not know what the allergy is. Just ordered more pred because it is cold in the NW of England and I am struggling.

Have you had skin prick tests done for allergies at all?

Have you polyps in your sinuses?

IGE normally is an indication of fungal/aspergillosis being present - I have ABPA my IGE prior to diagnosis was just under 5,000 - might be worth investigating.

My ige is 527 - tests show no fungal infection.

You bet i'm having it - no joke but my life is being ruined. Things are so bad if there had been a waiting list I would have gone private.

How are you now? I have had really bad sinusitis with pus in my cheek. My CT showed the whole left side blocked. The Consultant went in with a camera and said infection gone see how you are come back if rotten egg smell returns. I still have a blocked nose.
