Inhaler or Nebuliser???

I have at least four asthma flare ups a year. Right now, I'm having a bad flare up. In 16 years, this is the worst flare I have had. I take symbicort 160/4.5, montelukast (singulair), and Omeprezole everyday. I also take albuterol as my rescue. I'm wondering if a nebuliser would help me out. Thanks!!!

Hi there, you do need to discuss with dr, but I'm also struggling at mo, consultant says change of season my feeling since having flu jab had brought on this attack. Will seriously think twice next year.

Fortunately my saviour it's half term I can take time out to steroids/antibiotics nebulise and bed rest.

I find nebulising salbutamol and saline am helps clear and loosen all phlegm.

Later I ipratropium/salbutamol Nebuliser.

At present find this helps.

But sadly I'm a very impatient patient, these thing take there time.

If it's difficult to speak to your Drs. How about asthma nurse.

Or ask advise from asthma U.K. They are really knowledgeable,

Hi. I have a porta neb and I find it very helpful when things get really bad. However have you tried a salt pipe. I can highly recommended this. It really clears the bottom of the lungs you may feel it is making you worse in the first few days as it bring the rubbish up. It has to come up to get out.... Well worth sticking with though and a good way to keep the lungs clear when you are well too. All natural and no chemicals. Good luck

I felt a nebuluser wud help me during a flare up since this is what i get when i go to a and e. Howevet i was told that nebuliser needs to be used in a controled environment with medical.staff on standby since the patient might not realise how unwell they actually are. If flare up bad u need to be seen by doctor. Maybe u need steriods to help u thru the flare up. Hope u get this sorted. We all want good health.

I'm the same where a neb or two usually helps me in the ed but my GP and cons will not prescribe as they say at this stage it needs to be in hospital. They also help to loosen the thick mucus I get when bad. My cons did say they would give me one if I lived further away from the hospital. I do have a very old nebuliser as when I was younger (20 years ago) the thinking was slightly different about the effectiveness of multiple dosing.

I got pneumonia earlier this year and bought my own nebuliser just in case it really helped me out. It was just the salbutamol I had trouble getting from my GP. But well worth the investment

Has your peak flow dropped significantly? Do any of your medications at present bring any relief? How many times are you taking your reliever throughout the day? Have you had your o2 saturations checked recently? What brought on this attack? I suggest a good chat with your gp to discuss your current plan during this flare up. If you are really struggling then they will see you the same day, or if it's not tolerable then a trip to urgent care for a one off neb might be the way to go. From there they can base a decision on whether more is needed. Hope this helps.
