Grr can't shake this cough!

Now more antibiotics to try and get rid of this cough/chest infection. Now both lungs have 'creps'? No wheeze tho, so apparently no need for more steroids or an increase in seretide. Peak flow still only 65% at best. Also had chest x-ray to see what's going on. Following this, if it continues I'll need a blood test.

Don't understand wot they are saying about no steroids & wheeze I rarely wheeze but they go on tightness with me & air entry !

I know, I rarely wheeze either and would have thought steroids should reduce some of the inflammation and mucus production? I have symptoms every day & ventolin helps so she said to continue using ventolin when required.....but still no steroids. Hopefully the chest x-ray may she'd some light on things? I was told to wait 2 weeks for the results, do they normally take this long?

Anyone advise what 'creps' are and what this means?

Think he's referring to the crackles that can be heard in the lungs when they listen with a stethoscope

Ah, so crackles caused my mucus?

I believe you produce crackles when you have an infection and that could be the source of your mucus

I would question why no steroids if PF 65%! anything under 80% gets me a course of steroids. I would question with GP

I've had two lots of steroids and nothings changes since them, but now suddenly don't need them, I'm confused too!

Maybe they haven't given you steroids this time because they haven't worked previously (if you have already had two courses) I know after 3 (maybe 4 weeks) weeks they can also start to cause problems bone thining etc ... so maybe they are trying to give you a break

Good point thank you 😊

Hi Butterfly, creps are not a good thing to have, you can probable feel them in your lungs, it's like when you cough and the mucus roars in there, if you put you hands on your ribs or your lower lungs sometimes the mucus gets in there and you have a trouble to get the liquid out. I would take the antibiotics as well as the steroids because sometimes the antibiotics cannot do their work if we don't take steroids to reduce the inflammation and dry out the mucus. So make sure you get both from the GP or A&E. Take care!!

Oh I can feel and hear my lungs with every breath, like a gurgly kind of feeling and a squeaky noise breathing in then a rattle/gurgle on breathing out.

Unfortunately they won't prescribe more steroids this time.

I am waiting for chest x-ray results , in the mean time I have now caught a head cold so struggling even more and feeling very sorry for myself!

Ahhh your immune system is down so you catch things, I bet you feel down, I feel down too with that hoarse voice and cough hurting my lungs, thyme tea with honey 3 times a day helps me..the old vicks is good on your chest if you can stand the heat and the eucalyptus..well at least they are giving you a chest xray so you are being well taken care of..Let us know how your are getting on xxx

Thyme tea??

Yes I've been using vicks, not that I can smell it with this runny nose lol

They said up to two weeks for xray results, gp said a week so I'm hoping the gp is more accurate! Depending on xray and if antibiotics work (which 4 days in, they don't seem to be), I then need to go back for blood tests and further advice from gp ....if I can get an appt! This gp seems a little more proactive but only a locum so might not see her again!

Hi Butterfly

thyme is a herb, you can get it fresh at the market, supermarket or dry, if fresh boil it for 5 to 10 mn if dry you make a teabag with one teaspoonful and put boiling water on it for 5 to 10 mn. You drink it with honey up to 3 cups a day after meals..It is a natural expectorant and will get that mucus out so you can breathe better and it soothes the throat. I gargle with it as well. You can keep it in the fridge once infused.. Recommended by a doctor when I was a loose ends with inhaler side effects and all.

Not a substitute for medication but every little helps :)))

Book the GP appointment in advance and reschedule it if you need to do so, like that you won't be left without..

keep on pushing for those results but you know that,..

2 weeks seems a lot now it all depends if the GP ask for urgent answer or not then just make a little fuss..

i play vulnerable :)) Push for those blood tests, say you are worn out and out of breath you feel your asthma is getting out of control etc.just keep on at them dear..I wish you all the best

OK, sounds worth a try, as you say, every little helps!!

Good idea re booking an appt in advance and cancel if necessary, will do that.

Yeah I know the radiographer needs to report the xray, but in this day of electronic results, I'd have thought it'd be quicker!

Yes I really should be more assertive at my appointments ... I will push until they find out what's going on.

Thanks for your support and advice x
