Last few months local pharmacy have been giving me compressed inhalers when I order my Salbutamol. Usually switches between brands Salamol CFC or Air Salb.
Can't remember going last time I've been going through so many so quickly. Just wish I could you my old ones.
Is this the same in the rest of UK? What's your opinion of them?

By compressed do you mean the evohalers, the kind you press at the top and breathe in quickly at the same time?
As far as I am aware there are two kinds of inhaler; evohalers and accuhalers. Evohalers are the compressed type where the medicine is released under pressure when you press the top. The accuhaler is powder medication which you have to physically inhale and comes in a round container.
I have both the evohaler and the accuhaler, and I do find the accuhaler much more effective as I get more of it into my lungs and therefore it works quicker.
The reason you might be receiving the evohaler if that the kind you are referring to is down to what is put on your prescription by the doctors or nurses. They have to specify which type of inhaler to give you so you need to speak to them about prescribing the kind you find most effective.
I'm not sure ... basically its the same amount of doses but in a smaller cylinder. a bit like they do with deodorants. They just look like mini inhalers. It is not powder.
When you press the inhaler there is a much shorter release but "apparently" it is still the same dose. Personally, it looks like some sort of cost reducing exercise by the NHS.
Yeah that sounds like an evohaler. They don't work as effectively as accuhalers unless you use them with a spacer as the medicines comes out so fast its more likely to hit the back of your throat.
Do you have a spacer?
If I were you I would ask whoever does your prescriptions which one they have been prescribing and if it has changed (they should be able to see your prescription history) ask to go back as it was more effective for you.
Yea, that sounds like it. Last time I used spacers was 30 years ago ... should help with this though not the most convenient. My local pharmacy have said that all these are the only inhalers coming in now... is this the same in rest of UK?
I agree that they should be used with a spacer. You need to chat with your prescriber. I have an accuhaler in my handbag and an evohaler and spacer at home and the office
Well, at the moment this is not happening in Wales. Which pharmacy do use and can you change to another? If you have another pharmacy near why not pop in and ask them if they can get the other type of inhaler before thinking of changing the pharmacy.
