Lung pain?

Hi I always get pain in what I thought was the bottom of my left lung when my asthma is deteriorating which I always thought was caused by inflammation/scarring . But my new consultant tells me there are no nerve receptors there so lungs can't be painful. Does anyone else experience pain with their asthma? Thanks

Hi, I also get pain with my asthma, although mine tends to be top of left lung, I've got no idea why it happens but I've learnt to listen to it rather than trying to ignore, last time I did I end up in a&e, sorry I can't help explain why but at least u know ur not alone xx

Thanks :) good to know I'm not the only one, always an indicator of deterioration for me so perhaps I should be grateful that my body warns me even if Dr's say it's not possible!

Well, at least for you it's a warning - the pain I feel "in" one of my lungs (because I know I can't feel pain in the lung) usually flares up the absolute second when my chest starts feeling tight. Which means it's already too late when I feel it. It can subside if I gain control over my breathing, or it can subside as late as when my flare-up is back on track so it's not an indicator of ending the problem either.

I don't get pain but crackling and tenderness upper left lung, tend to know as it's the same place when I'm getting a chest infection. Could it be pleurisy, I once had that and it was extremely painful breathing in. No treatment just anti-inflammatory meds.

Hi thanks, I had pneumonia once which was very painful so I guess that was pleurisy, it's either an ache or a stitch these days . I usually take pain killers but it is weird!

Hi,

Yes I swear by this symptom. As soon as I get the pain I know I've got another infection and 9/10 that's where the infection is.

Like everyone else though I'm not able to explain this but at least your not on your own

This week alone, my asthma flared up on Sunday. On Monday I had a pain just below the right breast. On Tuesday I came down with a bad cold that rapidly moved to my chest. I often get pains in my chest when I am ill or when I am coming down with something. As long as it isn't pleurisy which I am sure I used to get a lot. That pain was incapacitating. The doctor said that it was due to muscle spasms but I am not entirely sure. Anyway, I don't agree that you can't feel pain in your lungs.

Hi asthma friends yes I get pains in my lungs with effort or infections and now I watch out because of the 80% risk of pneumothorax but she said it would be a long stabbing pain that wouldn't go away. Gives me the shivers just to think of it.

Consultant thought I had a small pneumothorax during an asthma attack admission last year. Scary but turned out to be a false alarm, phew!

Yes, I get pain, perceived in my left lobe, when infected. Perhaps it is muscular, we use an awful lot of muscles trying to breathe when asthmatic.
