Breathing mask whilst running

I only noticed I had asthma when I took up running, start out grand then lag in the middle, started coughing after races. Still want to carry on running but I was wondering if anyone uses a breathing mask and does it help circulate air, does it feel claustrophobic?

I don't do running - I'm an exercise induced asthmatic and running really triggers my asthma - but I use masks when I'm hoovering/dusting - and I wish didn't have to. They don't restrict my breathing at all, but they do make me feel very hot and in the past couple of years have caused skin problems on - including eczema. I've tried using different types (including surgical masks) but they all seem to have the same effect. The only thing that helps is using them for short periods and plunging my face into cool water and then patting it lightly dry after I've taken one off.

I run but have had to stop for now as the cold air that I breathe in makes me Ill and have just gotten over another attack!

I was wandering the same thing to prevent the cold air....its a good question to ask.

I think that some people have exercise induced asthma from what I have read but generally a trigger is the cold air....do you know which one is affecting you? If its the cold air then when the weather is better you will feel better....if its purely the exercise then maybe someone with exercise induced asthma will have some tips,

I don't run, but I do a lot of walking. I use a Buff when it is cold & I'm sure it helps.

I get exercise induced asthma especially if the air is cold. I cycle, the respro bandit wasn't good it was hot and uncomfortable.

I now use the respro sportsta it has a pollution filter, one way valves that let the hot air out and no cold air in, it humidifies the air. Love it! Even if it looks a bit odd!

Do you think it would as well for running.

It's helps but you need to wear it 2 months and pace yourself when you run , the reason people have asthma is the lungs arent strong enough. After 2 months you will feel really good as long as you pace yourself
