I have been told by my GP and Respiratory Consultant to take my hay fever medication all the time and not to stop taking the medication until I'm told to do so by them. After saying that though, I do have chronic asthma which is triggered by allergies.

It might be advisable for you to speak to your Asthma Nurse or GP

Yes i do take almost everyday but then i also have on my mind that are there any sideeffects? There might be some research in future which says people who used to take Antihistamine every day develop this or develop that... Its just scared me...

That is why i want to make absolute sure about taking a tablet everyday.

If we all looked at life like that we wouldn't do anything!

You either want to be well or not. Choice is yours!!!!

Yes you can but you should discuss with who ever looks after your asthma,

I take two Cetirizine a day, every day by prescription. I also take two Sudafed every day because my sinuses get bad. They are by prescription as well. It seems to help a bit.

I have quite severe allergic asthma. I get xolair four weekly . But daily take fexofenadine, citirizine and nasal spray . I have been on this regime for over five years. No obvious side effects. 😊

You should check with your GP that you have year-round allergies that affect your asthma; but if you do then yes, you can take antihistamines all year round. I was on them every day for several years before I started Xolair. Be careful though, some antihistamines have side effects such as drowsiness. Personally I found I couldn't drink alcohol at all while I was on them, or I felt incredibly woozy.

I take Fexofenadine 180mg 2 tablets a day, Loratadine 1 tablet a day, Nasonex Nasal Spray, Sodium Cromoglicate Eye Drops all of these hay fever medications have not caused any side effects

Hi I did take cetirizine for years but it has side effects, worse than the drowsiness I mean, not good for the liver and the urinary system, dries out your nose of course but your throat and eyes as well makes it painful in time..Im trying to lay off and wash my nose with Physiomer or Sterimar regularly and at night I put the Nasonex drops but even that gives me nose bleed..I ll see if I can cope without this year. My specialist told me that there is a once a year steroid injection which is very useful..but I took so many steroids this year I don't know

I've just started on Montelukast to try to deal with worsening asthma which I think is triggered by salicylates, in aspirin/ibuprofen but also, and more importantly, in food, perfumes, air fresheners etc. Still got my fingers crossed but seems to be helping now it's settling into my system. Tried antihistamines but after a week of improvement all slipped back. Beginners luck?? Has anyone else tried Montelukast?

I have been on Montelukast for 4 years. When I moved to this house 3 years ago, I was referred to the local hospital as I had a lot of time off sick due to asthma. He kept me on Montelukast, and daily antihistamine, and put me on Spiriva. My asthma has stabilised since then. If I have a problem I put myself onto steroids and see my asthma nurse within a few days.

Thanks, Jacqui, that's helpful to know. I'll stick at the Montelukast then....it might work.

I take my antihistamine regularly in the peak seasons but as I seem to be allergic to a wide variety of things that may affect my asthma or excema I tend to take them when i feel some sort of flare up coming up. I am taking them at the moment for my excema which is really bad at night for some reason.
