has anyone tried simbicort tried duo resp but couldn't get on with it the powder was making me ill. Have tried for a month now but made me feel bad especially in morning. No amount of rinsing my mouth helped

yes I did and hated it, at least 4 years ago I had a reaction to it.. I went to A&E my tongue was swelling up, full blown allergy.. stayed there till 4 o'clock in the morning doped up with all sorts then the doc said you can go home now.

I said you're joking?? Well no he said your stats are normal now..so at 60 years old, stoned out of my mind I had to take the night bus home.. So I'm not a pro 😃

they changed me to Fostair then and last year to Seretide 250

So watch out with that one..

I was on Symbicort for about 4 years. I thought it was great, but they changed me over to Fostair because it's got smaller particles.

Im sure it works for some people it was a popular programme but then they got the Fostair mart and put us in that one..a big plus for pharmaceutical companies I think..

Not connected to symbicort, but a respiratory consultant tried to get me to switch to Fostair even though the flixotide 250 I'm on is doing an extremely good job at controlling my asthma. I dug my heels in and refused to change:-). I should perhaps explain that I'd been referred on the suggestion of a consultant gastroenterologist who was blaming the flixotide for oesophageal thrush. I think the respiratory consultant thought the finer (non dry) particles of Fostair might help, though he admitted that the lack of thrush in my mouth (I've never had oral or pharyngeal thrush) suggested that the flixotide was not to blame. My major concern was that my asthma remained controlled - so I was very reluctant to switch.

I bet it was cost-related and also because they launched Fostair Mart and I had to sign up to the study. Why change you when you are to a good thing. Well after my fostair not being up to the severity of symptoms, I was put on seretide 250 by the Clinic and the GP said you will have to accept a diskhaler so I said how does that fit into my aerochamber? And stood my ground also.

Soon after I get an official letter from the surgery pharmacist saying my seretide 250 was officially changed to Spirdupla, a new generic made by Mylan.

So I gg and saw that it is only compatible with the aerochamber plus and that systemic exposure was greater, which why I have my doubts. It can only be used for the over 18 years plus, just for Ashma not CPOD

First secondary effect is headache..and there has been reported number of cases of oral thrush..All in all I don't like a change of meds anyway when the old one works out fine.

My main concern was (still is) that the steroid component of Fostair is Beclometasone. I've been on that steroid before (for about ten years) and my asthma was never properly controlled while I was on it. The fluticasone has really been so much more effective.

It has to be admitted though that I like the diskhaler (if that's the same thing as the accuhaler). I never liked the evohalers, but then I grew up using spinhalers - and the accuhalers are much closer to those.

Ok Maggie I understand what you mean sbout steroïds.

So many treatments on the market we don't know if they are developed for commercial purposes or for health improvement..

Yes, I was tried on the Duo Resp type of Symbicort and I could not stop coughing as the powder was lumpy. In also felt very faint! Went back on Flutiform but I get a rash and sores around my mouth (I rinse and clean my teeth). Am back on just flixotide and sometimes Ventolin. Am waiting or appointment at community respiratory clinic. I believe the actual Symbicort is better.

I've been getting in quite well symptom and control wise with symbicort, I'm only six weeks in, dry powders seem to work best for me at the moment although I'm not on. Smart/Mart regime I've a separate reliever.

Anyone had any heartburn/acid type effects from this? Wondering if it might be related?

Hello Lil

I find you get heartburn with all these steroid and or antibiotic products. I mentioned it to the GP when I first had a bad spell of it and he gave me Omeprazole 20mg 1 to take first thing in the morning.

When I stopped it came back with a vengeance and affected the asthma so the respiratory clinic put it on my med list and with a careful diet I must say I am GORD free.
