Hi All,

I have recently being given a blue inhaler by my doctor who is currently doing more tests. to see if i have asthma even tho i have a few symptoms like shortness of breath tightness in my chest and coughing up mucas and also having a blocked nose at night which i find hard to sleep.

I am having trouble at night sleep due to tightness in my chest at the moment my peek flow is about 420 - 450 when i'm not feeling well it about 230 -260 I also have wheezing at night but when i go to the doctors the doctor says he can not hear any wheez which i feel that they think i am lieing to them :/

when i do my peek flow it hurts my chest any advice on what i can do please ?

I have recently being to my doctors about my symptoms and was told it seems as tho i had my own agenda due to the amount of times i have being in the last few weeks. he was also not happy that i called asthma UK for advice.

My doctor as requested that i have a asthma reversibility spirometry, an ECG and a other blood test to see if i'm aligic to cat hair. Thanks in advance for any advice or guidance.

best regards

David

Hi David

A drop of around 50% is very significant & that's without knowing what your optimal value is.

As you'll see if you search the forum the absence of a wheeze isn't uncommon so don't worry about what the doctor thinks; the peak flow tells its own story. Also taking peak flow will cause pain because you have to try hard.

If your doctor has said that though, then I would try to find a new doctor! Or at least try to establish what he thinks your agenda is? Why would anybody want to end up with asthma? Anyway do you have a cat? Is that why he wants to check that?

Hi Minushabens,

Thanks for your reply.

I do have cat that i share with my house mates due to being in supported living sometimes i do get abit itchy after a few hours of being close to it for sometime.

I'v being to a Badger clinic tonight and the doctor there could see there was a few dips in my peak flow and suggested that i go to see the asthma nurse.

Thanks again for your reply :)

I can't believe your doctor got pissed off about you phoning the helpline - my GP was relieved when I said I had because he had no idea what to do with me so I just repeated what the helpline had suggested and he did what they said XD Waking in the night needing your inhaler is NOT normal, that means your asthma isn't well controlled. The mucus might be due to airway inflammation rather than still infection, if it's clear watery phlegm. I learned all this from the helpline so don't be afraid to call them again!!

Hi madmazda86,

Thanks for your reply,

I'v to a badger clinc tonight and they did a chest x-ray and listened to my chest and told me that all is fine. but did say i need to see the asthma nurse next week.

since the doctor had ago at me i have since asked to see a other doctor which i'm hoping to see next week sometime.

Thanks again for your reply :)

I do also suffer from anxiety which could be making me worrie more then i should be. i feel that i can not keep going to the doctors about my symptoms due to what happend before about being told i have my own agenda,

My PF this morning is about 340 a drop from last night which was about 470.

Hi this might sound gross but I've suffered from asthma since I was 2yrs old and one thing I've learned is if your coughing up any colour other than clear it's normally an infection as your doctor don't believe you give them a spit test sounds gross but very simple get a pot with a lid airtight is best and spit what you are coughing up in it then take it with you to your GPS can't argue with proof. I myself had to do this spit test for 3 days after a lung operation so trust me on this in there eyes your just words take proof different story I've had Dr's like this soon as I took proof thay didn't know what to do.
