Finally getting answers.

I've struggled with my asthma since 2011 and been passed from 1 consultant to another with inhaler changes and tablets. Recently I have had to leave my job of 28 years as the environment was to much and everthing was getting out of control. I have been passed to the Northwest Lung Centre team at Wythenshawe Hospital and they have been absolutely brilliant with me and now I'm getting answers to all my questions and told what my conditions are. I have been diagnosed with Allergic Asthma as everything from people's 2nd hand smoke to perfumes and different atmospheres to cleaning aids triggers my attacks. With this I have some Vocal Chord Dysfunction which shows itself with symptoms likened to asthma. I keep picking up chest infections which has been narrowed down to Streptococcal antibody deficiency. I have a few more tests to complete and from there I will have a better plan and medication to control the condition and get my life back to normal. The team at Wythenshawe have been brilliant and explained everything in simple terms I could understand to finally see a small light at the end of the tunnel is amazing. Don't get me wrong the medication will be for a lifetime but people are working so hard to research and understand asthma and it's not taken for granted anymore that you take a shot of ventolin and all is well. Asthma has so many levels that people don't know or understand unless you are a sufferer but sometimes out of the darkness you do so a little ray of hope and life can be more normal again.

glad to hear you have had such good care at Wythenshawe. I have an appointment there on Friday morning. Really looking forward to it. Thanks for posting.

So glad you're getting the right care. My mum has Eosinophilic Bronchitis without asthma which is a rare lung condition which gave us three years' worth of mum coughing all. The. Time. before it was diagnosed! But she was referred to Wythenshawe which is where it was diagnosed, and her care there has been absolutely amazing. I've only been to the cough clinic with her once but the pulmonary specialists are so good and actually fun as well; there was a kind of waiting-room banter that went on between all the staff. They've got my mum's cough right under control now and it's been a turning point for all of us. Now to get my asthma sorted! ;)

On my original visit I saw 2 wonderful nurses with Dr Niven and Dr Ryan. They explained everything they planned to do and what all the results mean in plain English. It made the visit so relaxed and took away some of the nerves. It's still a long path to walk but in the past 2 visits I have been more at ease and know the direction I'm going. All I can do so far is praise the entire team.
